Engine Protection Warning

At the track on a hard down hill left in third gear I would get the engine protection warning, power would be reduce and revs limited to 5500. Was not a problem in 4th gear.

I put an extra quart of oil in and it went away most of the time.

Is this an oil starvation issue? Is the solution to make sure the motor always has a quart more oil at the track?

It is in the high performance supplement to run 11 quarts for track use.

Absolutely not, but it's a great way to foam the oil and make it go ka-blamo while simultaneously getting your warranty voided.

10 quarts w/filter change. Don't play crew chief.

You didn't mention anything about coolant or oil temps. Have the datalog from your PDR? Is this repeatable, or just a one-time deal?

No, it doesn't. It only says to add 1 quart if you have the V-6, and then drain it immediately for street driving.

Check you wire harness and ensure A/C belt doesn't rub against it. This was a fairly common issue on some cars. And as Ryephile stated, do NOT run extra oil unless it is a V6...I have zero oil starvation issues at Mosport, which has high speed, high G left and right hand corners. So likely something else is causing your issue.

Man oh man

I love this forum. You guys rock when it comes to getting things done the right way. Nice info and "bad" info debunking.

Carry on and hammer down.

What kind of lap times were you running? My fastest at VIR is a 2:08.7, usually lap in the 2:11 range when I have open track but not pushing hard and I've never had this issue at VIR.

I'd guess its probably the wiring harness issue, I've never experienced fuel starve or oil starve at VIR and I've run with the fuel light on at the end of a session.

Download the cosworth toolbox that is used with the PDR. Open the file in cosworth toolbox and you'll get lots of data.

Pull your dipsticks after a run, see if it's foamy or liquid.
