Even a 3800 is weak for a cam that large if your concerned about 1/4 mile. Cam like that will want at lest a 4200 on the low end. My new cam is similar to the BTR4.
231/245 I will be setting up my stall for over 4500 flash. Your looking at 6800-7000 rpms shifts and the cam coming on strong over 4000.

Your large cam and you want to cut the heads.... you better plan on what ever you do fly cutting the stock hypereutectic pistons.... A no brainer for you would be some GMPP stock cnc ported heads for $1200 complete from Summit with the hollow valves for intake...... And yes of course plan on a whole new set of ls3/7 lifters. Just switching to the hollow intakes would make it a more durable valve train than the more limited RPM of the l99 and make it that much more worth it. And for gods sake don't shave the heads.... LOL compression does not really make that much more power to make it worth it to shave....And a good ported head will kick its arse as your going to have to spring match to the CAM and ditch the stock springs the springs on the GMPP head are low lift single beehives that are just Dumpster bait unless your like lower than stock lift.....
SO to me you have shave = 2 hp, cost? as then you have to really worry about clearance also................................. GM ported heads: 20-30 h.p., with hollow intakes for a higher better redline... And the ability to sell your old stock heads..... Anyway the last cam before the cam motion I have now was the TSP 235/239 duration with 112 LSA used to be .639/.623 but I read they tamed it to .629/.623 and it came out with better numbers than the night fury for all the dynos I read over the years. Was a great rumbling loping raped ape cam, sold it still good with 10K on it when I had to go stroker. The night fury.... lethal racing is closed but others still make that grind, give a cam a name and .... LOL its just another grind in the end yet good grinders ramp just right in the design of cams.... And that's more of where TSP had it over the night fury. There are more to cams than just names, its the material that makes them and various LSA and advance/duration/lift etc..... If I were you as suggested I would go VVT cam and gain more from being able to have that timing for a advantage.

Choose a company that will be around to stand behind their products. You already have Texas Speed headers, if they had good customer service why not give them more of your business?
Keep the vvt. |

Keep the VVT and delete the AFM.
More power down low with VVT, you need a 3600 converter or more for that BTR4

^ I know what it makes its been on 2 different dynoes one was 386/433 other was 416/440 summer vs winter . I dont really care about the dyno numbers more about the track numbers. but with what ever cam i use it will get dynoed one last time to see the real gain . I just put the varram cai and that seems to help alot up top .I keep reading about people keeping the vvt is it hard to tune?

Like I said there's no way your making that on a stock cam unless your car runs 11.50s in the 1/4 as it sits. My car runs a VVT cam and not every tuner wants to tune them.

There's got to be a dyno error. Weather isn't going to effect it by 30rwhp
