Alright, its been a while since you've seen updates to the SST Camaro 5 Sub Shop Special and the abuse is just killing us...

OK, so here is the beautiful Air-To-Air Intercooler fabricated for the SST:

And this was how the custom radiator fit:

Well, after talking and keeping to the goal of 100% streetability while being pretty quick too, we decide to switch to an Air-To-Water Intercooler. The Air-To-Air would work like a charm on the street, but it blocked too much of the radiator surface and that would make the engine run hotter here in Florida. So... Air-To-Water. [Plus at the track you don't have to rely on ambient air temp to cool the charge, you can use ice water and dry ice to control your IAT's]

In order to design an ATW that allows the highest efficiency and shortest piping it would be necessary to move the already great fitting radiator forward. :( Oh well.

So...the front support was cut and refabricated to put the radiator THROUGH the support. It was moved forward a total of 5". This allows the ATW intercooler to fit perfect and even allowed us to fabricate a radiused, billet snout that also allowed the intake runners to be raised more which will widen and fatten the torque curve farther.

It has taken a little longer, but we feel this set of modifications will be well worth it in reliability, streetability and power gain.

Pic 1 - The radiator moved forward 5" and the fabrication mount for the billet snout.
Pic 2 - How nice both the radiator and ATW Intercooler fit. When finished it will look factory stock.

Also note how short the piping between the turbos and the Intercooler is. More free HP - cool stuff !

Warranty? Warranty? That is the least of our worries.

But I was terrified of violating the Sub Shop Franchise Agreement...
How would we ever be able to provide lunch at C5Fest 2 without it ??

Think of all that lost meat and cheese...and the buns...Oh the horror !!

We may as well call it the HMS Bounty at that point. It would be mutiny.

Geez, you guys almost had me convinced to put one of those portable little gas grilles on the chute mount for the hot subs...

Hehe! I'm with you on the warranty thing. Here is my definition.

Warranty - that thing that stops the weak from doing what they want with their Camaros!

My build is nothing like yours, speedster, but I am having way too much fun modding mine to let the warranty get in the way.

(PS: I realize that not everyone is comfortable voiding their warranty and I completely understand that. We each have our own comfort zones.)

Oh yeah, about the gas grill thing... our little van/camper has a gas outlet on the back to hook up a gas grill to it. You could do that to SST. I'm sure you could hide that somewhere among all the other goodies.

Most cars have what, 6 feet or more of intake tubing on an ATAAC... you have maybe 2 including the snout? That's cool beans!

I would recommend you route the intake thru the hood to prevent small children and kittens from being sucked in the engine

So will this transmission still utilize tapshift or will it only work for the linelock and transbrake?

Yeah maybe around 2 feet of tubing total. Should really allow the ATW to do its job efficiently. Sorry about the small animals...

No more TapShift :( Since this is a 4L85E there will be maps for street, strip, road course and highway cruise modes. The buttons are lineloc and transbrake. Great for ergonomics and safety - don't have to take your hands off the wheel during launches.

Gonna rely on the Barton shifter for spirited street driving...
