How much rwhp can the back end and transmission hold in a 2010 camaro ss

I already asked this question in the transmission forum but no responds yet. So i decided to post it here because i want to know what else i can to the engine so its somewhat an engine post haha.

Right now im at 580-600 rwhp, but im going to change the exhaust and do a flex fuel convention for e85. Which with them two will hopfully get me to around 680 to 700. The guy at the shop said that 600 to 650 rwhp "might" be to much for the transmission. Does anyone know? Also how much can the driveline and the axle hold.

I also have a new 3200 stall converter.

I won't speak to the 6L80 - but I can tell you 500whp with traction is plenty enough to break axles and rear gears when used with sticky tires and surfaces. Auto cars are generally much easier on their diffs and axles than stick cars, but if you're on a tire I would say you're entering the danger zone. Ultimately, it will really depend on how you use the power. On street tires, on the street, it'll probably hold up a long time. Once you start adding traction you life-span goes down.

6L80 youll be pushing its limits. It will really all depend on the tune at those levels. Not sure how you plan to pick up nearly 100rwhp with e85 and exhaust...what kind of compression and cubes you running?

I built mine based on a 650rwhp ceiling. Running around 580-650 now depending on which pulley. SBE can probably handle that safely. Trans is probably not happy but I have her shifting just right now and I am hoping it stays together.

I put the ZL1 rear in when I went above 600rwhp. The stock rear with ALL of the supporting mods and axles will hold the 650 I bet. Was cheaper to do ZL1

I was thinking you were NA posting in this forum. FI with E85 is a different animal. Youre really going to need a good tune at your level though. I had Futral build my 6L80 when it went out. Justin was running a 6L80 in his G8 with shot of nitrous and it was holding up good. cost me around $2K I want to say couple years back

This!

Also everyone on this forum is hard core about upgrading the rear end and axles. The Zl1 stuff is $$$, it's really heavy and there are no gears available for it. Also if you beef up the rear to "bullet proof" status where will other problems arise. Stock axles and diffs are cheap compared to transmission. I'd rather collect a good used core diff, stuff whatever gears I wanted in it and wait til I hurt the one in the car bad enough. Used cores from automatics are cheap.

Also you can buy a Detroit trutrac like what the z28 has BUT with the SS spline count so it works with factory axles. The SS's diffs fail usually because they break the spider gears in the diff. There are no spider gears in the trutrac. So no weak link there.

Just my thoughts in regards to rears and axles at least.

Solid approach IMO. I treat the stock axles like a fuse - I'd rather "blow" one of those than hurt something more expensive. You can build quite a few SS rear ends for the cost of 1 ZL1 conversion - and if you're an N/A guy you need that 4.10.

address the wheelhop!

i blew the spider gears at 42k miles in 2012 and got it fixed under warranty. August 2009 production date. Manual trans car. At the time, car had LT's, CAI, tune, full 3" catless exhaust and made 428RWHP. I am certain that excessive wheelhop is what did this rear in.

Last July i upgraded to 1LE Axles and BMR trailing arms, outer t/a bushing, and toe rods. This january i got hold of a 15k mile Z28 diff and its in the car now.

Havent launched is yet since in waiting till i do the solid rear cradle bushings and rear upper c/a bushings to complete the package to eliminate wheelhop.

^^^ THIS. Honestly, the best thing I ever did was solid subframe bushings - it transformers the car. I believe the subframe bushings are the biggest contributors to the wheelhop - there is just so much spring and play there.
