Battery in a pool of tire sealant for almost a year - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

My van decided to die out on me today so I figured I'd use my camaro and jumpstart it. Since my camaro was in my garage and the van was parked behind it I thought to myself "Glad the battery is behind. No need for any long jumper cables" . So I go and pop the trunk and remove the thermocol cover that sits on the battery and lo and behold the battery is sitting in a pool of white liquid. Nearly freaked me out.

I was wondering how nothing had shorted out yet. The only time I had ever removed the compressor out was when I was helping a friend out with a flat about a year back. I'm pretty sure I had put the cap back on the tire sealant line in the air compressor but I guess it somehow popped out and all the tire sealant liquid basically dumped into the battery compartment.

I took some pictures but by then I had already removed most of the gunk out. The pictures below are after I had removed almost 75% of the sealant liquid.

The tire sealant is a really sticky liquid and it was a real pain to clean especially because you can't reach under the battery stand and the floor of the trunk. I had to pop open a seal cap on the bottom of the trunk that basically acted like a drain hole and gently keep pouring water until all the sealant drained away. Has this happened to anyone else or am I the only one?

Also how come the tire sealant just flowed out of the compressor unit. Isn't it supposed to flow out only when the compressor is ON?

Those are a piece of shit. I used mine, made a huge mess, and couldn't get it to stop releasing fix-a-flat afterwards. I threw away the fix-a-flat canister and just kept the air compressor.

I carry a tire plugger kit and the compressor. No way in hell am I going to fill my tires with that shit.

This is probably the better advice to follow. And less likely to foul your TPMS sensors.
