Rear Tow Hook - Cheap and Temporary

I found a cheap and temporary rear tow hook solution for the track next week. It works for the 16 SS and 17 ZL1. It allows the tow strap to clear the gas tank if you don't have too great a tow angle. Certainly not an ideal solution but beats the alternative of a tow truck driver attaching it to random parts until something works. At least in this case the worst that could happen is a bent lower control arm.

This is a simple, no-drill, no-cut install that took an easy 30 mins on the lift. Remove the four lower control arm cover retainers and remove the cover. It can go on either side or both if you buy two kits. Bolt the straight bar into place with the inside bar flush against the inside rear of the lower control arm. Sell the curved bar to anyone who wants it. After CFest, I'll remove it and replace the cover.

There are dozens of similar tow hooks in various colors and designs. I just went with the cheapest red one so it's easy for the tow truck driver to spot.

Here's the one I used. There are lots of similar style and color options for those that want to color coordinate.

Forgot to mention that I replaced the bolts with all Grade 8 hardware for the final assembly. Photos are of the test fitting with the bolts that came with the kit.

How safe is this on the lower control arm? Wouldn’t it bend?

Quite possible it could bend. I considered the other hookup options that a weekend tow truck operator at the track would use. Speaking from experience, this is a better option than letting them find a spot on a car they may not be familiar with. I use the same setup on my 6 Gen with no issues.
