Paintless dent removal

Has anyone used paintless dent removal on their hood with the decal/stripes. I have a car with one dent about the size of a quarter that is on the hood decal?

Doubt the adhesive is strong enough to suck it back up without the vinyl lifting/getting warped. You may have better luck trying to push it up from the underside with some heat, if you can even get to it

Pdr is done from the underside. I don't see how the vinyl will hurt the repair.

I was wondering more if the repair would hurt or crack the vinyl?

If this is the case, the vinyl will be fine

There may be the odd time they work from the top.....but with dents being considered a negative deform in the quality dept They are worked up that way they can control the amount of lift as they go. That's just from what I've seen. Maybe some guys that do it can chime in.

The problem with vinyl decals is that they do not cast a reflection very well. PDR is done off of pure reflection and shading....so you can see the depth and the area of the damage area.

I have fixed a few with vinyl decals and I've had to place a piece of gloss tape over the area. That way, the entire distorted area can be seen. If you see a dent the size of a quarter on vinyl....it's probably more like the size of half dollar...just because you cant see the entire distorted area because of the reflection.

If I wanted cooking advice I would never ask for it at McDonalds.
Pick up the phone, call a PDR shop and ask them.

any PDR (an all other businesses for that matter) are going to say "sure, we can do it. Bring it in!" and once youre in, they got you hooked. I am pretty sure the OP is asking if anyone has had experiences with any PDR's and how well they performed. hes only obtaining info, like all of us on our previous posts.

Sure it's a lot of reflection but also the ability to see the deform without relying on paint reflection. I think the vinyl would give off enough shine to see the highs and lows. But your right the deform is likely larger then the op thinks. This may help him a bit because it might not be such a sharp deform.

Really not trying to be a jerk but I've specialized in PDR for 9 years and I know exactly how it is working with metal. And yes, it has 100% to do with a panels reflection to do a repair, that's why we use a light and/or reflector boards to do the repairs.

As for aluminum panels, (Camaro hoods along with mustangs and challengers are aluminum) yes they are fixable, just depends where and how big the dent is.
