GM / SLP ZL 575 warranty debate

I know there has been much debate on the slp-zl cars and gm,, as to who is covering the warranty,, i can now verify that gm does not approve of the slp cars and does not recognize them as being covered under gm powertrain warranty, as soon as you bring a slp-zl car into a gm dealer for any powertrain warranty work and gm finds out it is a slp supercharged car they will instantly void all gm powertrain warranty and place a gm warranty block on the vehicle.

seems everyone thinks just because they purchased the vehicle from your gm dealer that you are getting a gm warranty,, not true.

Not really SLP specific, all the tuner cars. Hennessey, Lingenfelter, SLP ... All those tuner/upfitters provide their own warranty. Not sure what the controversy would be about. If you buy one of those it is pretty clear in the literature, and on their websites that the powertrain warranty is now theirs and not GM.

the SLP cars are the only ones you can order and buy right from the GM dealer and people are thinking that Gm and SLP are togething on building these cars and that there is no issues with warranty work.

also no one is told when they buy their SLP car that their gm powertrain warranty will be void.

Well that's good to know that if you buy the SLP it's not covered by GM's factory warranty. But if it's covered by SLP's then what's the big deal? Shouldn't it be pretty much the same powertrain warranty coverage as GM?

I don't about all the fine print. All I know is that my dealer said it is full warrenty and it's in writing. If GM won't pay then they will.

I don't see the big deal here. It is clearly stated as having a 3 year 36,000 power train warranty. Sure it's not as long as the GM power train but I've never had a power train die on me yet. Either way someone else foots the bill.

Plus, unless they build these things to fall apart at 36,001, then you should have pretty much the standard ware and tear set it on it. There really shouldn't be more surprises in how the power plant reacts... But there are always those little hiccups.

So you didn't take the car back into the dealer you bought it from? I don't think that the dealer that sold you the car would void your warranty for the powertrain. Why wouldn't they just call up SLP and fix whatever powertrain issue there was with SLP funding the repair?

not my car, but yes the car was taken to the dealer where it was purchased, and as soon as gm found out the car was a slp car they said gm never supported the SLP program and that the entire powertrain warranty is void, sure enough a gm vis was ran the next day and yes there was a warranty block on all powertrain

i think the dealer who sold the car should be responsable you know they made money off of it they should take care of all the paper work and fix the car and work out the detailes for the consumer like sending it where ever it needs to be fixed

I don't blame GM. Why should they get stuck holding the warranty paper on a powertrain not design for that kind of flywheel torque? Not sure what SLP does to beef up the drivetrain but I sure would be asking before spending that kind of ching...
