Traction

What are you boosted guys running on the rears to get traction? I'm just ordered a sc and I think I'll be in the 550-600whp range. Ordered new rims and I'm trying to decide what tires to get. It's not a dd but I do drive it roughly 3k a year and I'm worried about getting to aggressive with the tires in our rainy conditions in Florida.

I have tried mickey thompson et street, nitto 555r and have had mixed results. The tires need to be heated up for them to hook in 1st gear. This summer i put on double adjustable rear shocks and tunin them is giving much better results. I can set them on soft and need to pedal 1st and 2nd gear with 305 x 18 nitto 555r. Or i can crank upt the compression and rebound and get them to hook in 1st.

This is on a manual shift car with 610 rwhp.

I run a road course setup on street. It does not see much rain, but if I get caught in a storm, I just don't pass anyone.

A lot of guys like the Conti's for a summer tire with good street traction and well behaved manners in the wet.

I run M&H slicks at the drag strip, but that is how I snapped a ZL1 axle.

You will have to sacrifice some straight line traction to run a decent wet tire. Which is fine, just dont punch it in first gear. Its better than having the best straight line traction and sliding off the road in the rain. Which is how I feel above 30mphs with MT ET Rs.

The MT ET SS tire was much better in the rain, but still not good. The MH Racemaster drag radial was even better in the rain, but still not great.

My friend loves his Continental Extreme Contact DWs Drives them everyday in Florida, no sliding around, and can still manage a 2nd gear (when its dry) hit with some spin at 830whp. As cracker said, lot of people like that tire.

Not trying to get too off topic here, but are you having a shop do your SC install? I've got my LSA conversion sitting in my garage, thought about doing it myself but I think I'm better off having a shop do it. Thinking of having Chris Henry do it since he lives close by, but was wondering what other are doing here in FL.

I have Hankook ventus 305s when I was 574WHP they hooked in first on a hot day, warmed up. Now they will only hook in 2nd on a warm day warmed up. I have gotten quite a bit of life out of them going on 10k miles and still have probably another 10k in them. They are more of a road course tire but I was impressed in how well they hooked straight line. I was thinking NT05R next, wont last as long but will hook better.

I ordered a centrifugal kit from ECS and I'm planning to do the install myself. We have a few local shops in Daytona that can probably do the tune, but I'm planning to bring it to redline in pompano. That where my buddy brings his zr1, so I trust them.
