Vitesse TC Longterm

Let me start by saying I was never a fan of, nor purchased a throttle controller because I never wanted to mess with a drive by wire system. If I wanted more power without dead spots, I got a tune, ported my TB, hell, I had my supercharger ported too while I was at it. Always thought TCs were nothing more than placebo BS.

Fast forward to today. A couple weeks back I picked up a 12 RS from the original owner. Incredibly well maintained and loved car. It has a CAI, Vmax TB, Borla, MGW short-throw and the 2 button (original design) Vitesse throttle controller. The reponse on 5 feels pretty good, not going to lie. I'm fully aware that it provides nothing other than a quicker throttle response, but I don't hate it. Actually thinking of keeping it on the car.

This brings up the question. I will be driving this car often and long trips with the wife. Basically, no snow or salt on the ground = I'm enjoying this car. So with that in mind, can you guys share your longterm experience with the Vitesse? CELs? ECU issues that developed over time? Limp mode? Or everything is just fine? It's now been years since this thing came out, so there should be some good, longterm data out there. Thanks in advance (and no YouTube vid links please, I've already watched those). I'm interested in your experience.

Hi,
I have the VTC (2 button) setup to on #5. But I think it doesn't play-well with my tune.
I like it but. I haven't had any issues.

I'm planning on buying a JMS PedalMax to see if it will be a-little smoother.
Will see.

I ran mine for around 6 years with no issues. Usually left it set around 5. The last six months or so, I started playing racecar a bit more, setting it to 7, and sometimes 9. Within 6 months of really getting on it, it started malfunctioning and kicking the car into limp mode. I had to remove it.

I now have a tune, and a tune does NOT do what that did. I fully plan on getting another throttle controller, but next time it will be a Pedal Commander.

I had and enjoyed VTC for a couple years , then for unknown reason started throwing limp mode, stabitrak codes removed it and replaced after about a year with pedal commander

I have had mine on for about 7 or 8 years. I do have a tune and I have had no issues at all.
I typically leave it set at 7

Thank you everyone for your input. I’ll leave it in until/if I have an issue. Then I’ll reconsider my options.

on #10 for the last 8 years, you just get use to it. And make a Kick on a RS when set to Sport Mode

Had mine for ~6 years; the only issue I had was when I tapped the throttle a couple of times in quick succession and got a code (reduced power, etc.) related to the throttle position sensor not meeting command (not surprising considering what the throttle controller does). Typically keep it on #5, and even with a tune (Overkill) #5 seems much more responsive. As mentioned, worst case use it for now and if it gives you regular issues then stop using it.

Had mine since early 2017. Not a single problem with it. I have had it under multiple tunes and many different mods. I did have to lower the settings once I got a ported throttle body. I keep it on SP6 now. Anything higher and it's just ridiculous and makes it impossible to take off from a stop.

Its so weird how some cars it works great and other cars it throws codes like crazy.

Got mine Oct '14 when it first came out, so I've had it now 6 1/2ys with no problems. I try to follow all VTC threads so I'm very familiar with all the reported issues. They seem to be caused mostly by 1) improper install calibration or 2) changing SP settings while driving. Also more automatics than manuals seem to have problems, and what he said above ^^^^.

IMO the pedal sensor seems to like a stable setting. I keep it on SP5 ...like Goldylocks said "just right". SP6 or above with my 3:91 rear and PTB is like holy sheets I also added a Dyno Steve remote tune about 1k mi ago with no problems.

Thanks for mentioning this. Now it's coming back to me. I remember following these threads years ago and several people specifically warning about not playing with the settings while driving.

Otherwise, thanks everyone. Decision made, it stays until it gives me a reason to throw it away.

If you tweak regularly these things have a tendency to go into limp mode but if you set it and leave it alone, you should be relatively ok. I have one. I can't even give it away. No one wants it. I took it off my car about 3 months after I put it on. One limp mode is one too many.

Had mine on for about 7 years. Never had a problem with it. I always fiddle with it while driving and still runs good.
