Considering a 1LE.....

Trying to decide on what Camaro to buy. I'm selling my 68 Camaro and 94 convertible Vette so between the two I think I'll be able to afford pretty much anything I want. I have my old GMC truck as my daily beater and even that only gets 5000 miles a year on it. I have driven, and really like, the 1LE. I know the tires are pricey and don't last long but I don't put alot of miles on a car and there are no tracks within several hours of me so track days will be few, if ever. On the flipside I also drove a very basic 2018 1SS with a sunroof as the only option and enjoyed it as well. Not so crazy about the cloth but if it wears well I could live with it. I've also seen that there are plenty of 2017s left if one doesn't mind going a ways to get one. So, I can get a "stripped" 2018 1SS for around $33K, a well equipped 2017 2SS for between $35k and $40K, and a 2018 1SS 1LE for $41K. Decisions, decisions.....Car will basically be a fair weather glorified toy on our wonderful curvy and mountainous West Virginia roads. Only real must have is the six speed transmission.

Every one is going to have their personal opinion of which car is better...for weekend drives and fun in the mountains my pic would be 1LE.
I had a 13 1LE and I drive a 17 V6 1LE today and it’s only a weekend nice weather car and it’s a blast...the SS 1LE is magic from what I hear from other owners...

Well, if I were u and selling a 68 Camaro and a corvette convertible and could get just about anything I wanted, I sure as heck wouldn't be "settling" on any 1SS or even a 1LE.

Those mountains are gorgeous, the curves sublime. You should be enjoying open top thrills with a car with excellent dynamics. If u can swing it, a Porsche Boxster GTS is worth considering.

Lol...not that the 1LE doesn't have that, but crack the top while ur burning up those gorgeous roads...

If track days are few and far between.... Get the 2SS with a manual. Still has excellent performance but you don't have to mess with the tires.

I get tired of hearing my tires throw stuff up on the car, I am already thinking of changing them out to a set of Michelins and then putting them back on for track days. And I only have 700 miles on mine.

Thanks for the input guys. When I said I could have anything I wanted, I meant within the realm of the SS lineup. I've found a very well equipped, new 2017 2SS with the mag ride and big brakes for $40K. Maybe that is the car I should be looking at. There also looks to be a fair number of 2017 convertibles out there.

The 1Le will be at home on those wonderful curvy and mountainous West Virginia roads, even if it will never see a track both you and the car will be very pleased. The best thing about the 1Le is that its a great drivers car above everything else .

I did own a 2ss auto and now a 1le. Really liked the 2ss the biggest shortfall to me was the brakes and lack of headroom with a helmet on. The 1le is amazing how much tighter and more responsive the whole car feels. If you want a manual I would definitely get the 1le and switch out to ps4 once tires are worn out(took me 3900 Miles). I would try to test drive back to back to really feel difference and play with the modes a bit on the 1le. Is very soft and compliant in tour mode and very racy in track. Good luck!

1le is the way to go. I am tempted to drive to West Virginia just to drive through the awesome mountain roads. Roads in Michigan just can’t do this car justice.

Scheduled to pick up a 1SS 1LE this Saturday, weather permitting.
I chose the 1LE strictly to drive through the twisty country roads of Pennsyltucky.
It will never see a track.
I just wanted the most capable car for the money.

Good handling, as proven by impressive track times.
Great braking, 0-60 in 93 feet! Can't really ask for more.
Decent acceleration, could be improved.
Comfortable, the mag ride seems pretty smooth, love the Recaros.
Looks good without being too flashy or obvious like a Corvette.
Fairly rare, don't see them around here much.
Seems like a good car.

Only down side is tires, which will sort it self out if tire manufactures make 305 all season tires in the near future, I hope.

Guys, contact Michelin and put a bug in their ear about some all season 305 tires to match the 285's that are available.

Well tires and insurance. I was quoted $300 more a year compared to a '17 C7 Corvette and my C6. C7 was only $2 more than the C6, go figure.
Probably talk them into adjusting some of the redundant coverage and deductibles.

Not to take anything away from the SS but anyone who enjoys driving can appreciate a 1LE.

I say do it. Only issue is seats are very tight and can get a little unconfortable after long drives. I wish i could have leather 2ss red and black seats.
