A different speed limiter question?

As we all know we are limited to 155(except ZL1-LT) and since the LT comes with 18" tires i believe...and the car is limited to 118 MPH because of this. If someone were to put the RS package tires and rims(Pirellies)on,and raise the limiter to the same as everyone else 155,how could GM void there warranty? I mean, the LT is the same exact car as the 1LT,2LT....correct?

It takes a tune to raise the limiter. Beware of that.

And how are you going to raise that limiter?

Changing the tune is like rolling the dice.
You may or may not ever have any issues.

But if you have any serious drive train issues, and GM requests any data from the onboard computer you will likely find out they will deny warranty repairs.

It does not matter one bit that you changed to the proper tires like the other cars.
Change the factory tune and GM finds it, your on your own.

Yes,i know this.Im just asking a hypothetical question. I was just wondering since it all has to do with the tire package, how they could deny anything, since the car was just being brought up to the specs of every other car.

Your missing the point.

The fact you "changed the tune" is all the reason they need to deny.

You can argue till your blue in the face that all you did was change the speed limiter, and they won't care.
Once they find a modified tune, they will just stop looking any farther.

They spend millions of dollars developing these cars, and all the testing they have to go through.
You mess with that, and the ball is in your hands.

With that said, hypothetically I will agree with you.
If all you did was raise the speed limiter and nothing else you shouldn't have any issues.
But GM will not look at it like that, and I wouldn't expect them too.

They could deny it simply because it didn't come from the factory that way. The after market wheel and tire package would be considered an owner modification.

I'm curious as to why someone with a 1LE is interested in how to change the speed limiter on a (I think you mean) LS? Or are there now three versions of LTs (LT, 1LT, 2LT)?

I wonder if your dealer could use a factory tune from a RS equipped LT and keep your warranty. But then again factory tunes are probably VIN specific....

There are only two versions of LT's.

You would have to get an aftermarket tune to increase the speed limiter. The dealership has the ability to increase the speed limiter, but they aren't going to take on the liability of you killing yourself when they do so. The possibility of you changing your wheels and tires back to a lower speed level would also be a concern. 118mph is more than enough. I won't lie I have been 155mph in my car a few times, but what is the real need to go that fast?

Couldn't you maybe swap an LS PCM for an RS one? Dealer done, of course.

No, that will not work either.
Been discussed many times before. GM will not allow that.

Wait, what's to stop any LT or SS driver from buying tires that are not rated at 155mph? Has anyone actually tested whether a dealer would be willing to both sell a person the higher rated tires AND change the limiter? I keep hearing people say that the dealers won't do it but no examples.
