ZL1 vs SHO with Meth and tune
A buddy has a 2011 Taurus SHO (AWD, twin turbo V6). Put some $$ into an exhaust, methanol injection kit and a basic tune. Took it to the drag strip a couple weeks ago and raced my ZL1 against it. WOW. He. Is. Fast.
Over 7-8 runs I could only beat him by .030. I was consistently in the 12.7-12.9 range @111-114, and he was in the same range but doing 105-109. That AWD gets him off the line quick. The LSA may sound better, but dang, that SHO is a great sleeper.

There is nothing as easy as tweaking a turbo vehicle for more power. Better hope he doesn't get a race tune and exhaust work done. You being at high elevation hurts you for sure. That's the thing about turbos, once a predetermined boost level has been set, the turbo will spool and make boost until that level has been reached, regardless of d/a for the most part. S/C engines would have to pulley down to make up for really negative d/a to compensate. N/A cars are just plain screwed. Needless to say, the EB engines are no slouch. When you can hustle a 5500lb CC F150 to high 12's @ 106 with basic mods and not ever touching anything on the engine internals, that's awesome.

Yeah, the same company that did my tune messes with EcoBoost stuff quite a bit. They have an F-150 hustling pretty hard...
I don't recall what all is done to this truck but, if I remember correctly, it's all bolt ons. Stock engine, stock turbo, etc.

Not quite, had upgraded compressor wheels, but still, all very basic work really. Would like to see the EB engine in a Fox body. That would be interesting............

The Ecoboost is no joke. Like any turbo car, they respond great to mods.

Isn't ZL1 suppose to be a low 12s or high 11s car? Even the new SS is around 12.3....

Yeah why is that zl1 so slow? don't normal ss's with a few bolt ons run in the high-mid 12s?

The 5th gen is not 12.3.....and pro drag racer Jeff Lutz managed 12.2 in the 6th gen auto and 12.4 in the manual....thats a pro racer so average Joe's are not going to get that.

Shhhhh don't say that to loud. The guys over on Camaro6 might hear you. It's an 11 second stock car over there all day. I've raced about five 16SS's this year. And the fastest was a 12.3 A8. Under perfect conditions, with a very good driver. I think they can hit 11s. They have the trap speed for it.
