Question for you local NW Florida/Pensacola area guys and gals. Where is the closest drag strip? Preferably a 1/4 mile track... Thanks in advance!

The closest drag strip will soon be Emerald Coast Dragway in Holt. Otherwise Atmore, AL, or Cottonwood, AL. All of those are 1/8th mile.

The closest 1/4 mile is probably Montgomery, AL, then South Georgia Motorsports Park.

Quite a few of us will be going to Pony Wars at SGMP this weekend....come on out and hang with us!!!

Thanks for the invite and the info! I doubt I can make it this weekend, but you should enjoy it as the weather is projected to be nice. Maybe I can get together with the group later on.

You indicated that the closest drag strip will be in Holt. I'm not far away from there...when is it projected to open? I'm also surprised there are no 1/4 mile tracks close by. I don't understand why folks would rather run the 1/8th. My car is just getting wound up when it hits 1/4 mile.

Insurance for 1/4 mile tracks is crazy ridiculous. Most local racers are bracket racers, and 1/8th mile is fine for that. In order for a 1/4 mile track to make it, they have to have quite a few LARGE events a year to make enough money to cover the "normal" weekends. Hard for tracks to take risks.

Holt was actually supposed to open in July/August, but had some delays. I'm not sure what the new projection is.

Ok, I didn't know about the insurance costs for 1/4 mile tracks...geez lawsuits and insurance companies screwing things up again for the rest of us.

I found the Emerald Coast Dragway Facebook page. I'll keep track of their progress through it, and hopefully they'll be able to open soon. Looking forward to meeting other Emerald Coast camaro owners.

I can't do it the weekend of the 5th....I will be at a convention. The 19th is the weekend before Thanksgiving, but we can do it that weekend if everyone is OK with it.

Whats the current logistics plan for Pony Wars and the ECC group? Everyone just kinda meeting there?

Also are there any last minute preparations I should know about when getting the car ready to go down a drag strip? Thanks all. Ill most likely be doing the autocross as well.

I just mentioned it as there were a few posts of people being pre-registered or planning on going to the car show. I couldn't do the 5th either as it is a Reserve weekend.
