An old high school friend of mine (jokingly) never forgave his parents for selling their Stringray Corvette "because gas was too expensive" and buying two Volkswagen Beetles to replace it with, as a "practical" decision.

Going with the assumption of a v8 getting an average of 20 mpg on premium and that there might be a bit of a commute, and other driving 400 miles/week (thats where I'm at) the V8 will cost $81.40 per week

Then going with the assumption that the v6 is getting an average of 23.5 mpg with regular, it costs 65.87 per week

The difference is $15.53 per week or $62.12 per month.

Just some calculations I did since I'm shopping for a camaro my self at the moment. But you can imgine the savings as you get into some of those 35 mpg cars.

This post is sooooo funny. How many people that care about you for you to NOT sell your car. If you look at the big picture, whether you sell or not really won't effect anyone of our lives. You will just not be coming here to post anymore.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

LOL - Glen Beck... Words just can't describe how wrong he is.

On topic - OP, are you going to be upside down on your current loan if you trade her in? If so, don't do it like other folks have been saying.

I saw my old car on the lot today, and I missed it. But I also knew that I couldnt afford to keep feeding my Hemi, so I am thankful I have the car that I have, and know that the time will come later for toys

Do the right thing for you, not what the fanboys say.
I'd believe it was a good idea if you didn't trade in a Hemi-powered car for a spank-me new Dodge Avenger. You just purchased one of the cars with the worst resale value known to mankind, so in 0 seconds, you took a few thousand dollar hit in depreciation, which could have been a few years worth of gas money for the Hemi.

The only way this works is if you sell whatever gas-guzzling, financed car you already own for something like a mid 90's Honda Civic with low miles that you pay cash for, and do not insure for anything other than liability.

Here is my situation. I finally have a car that has a slew of aftermarket parts. I am going piece buy piece making the car I want. I live houston and the commute is a pain with a m/t and high power. So when i get back to the states i am going to buy a diesel golf with an auto tranny.

42 mpg hwy and like 30 or so in city, all while saving miles on the camaro and letting me have a beater to drive when camaro is getting major work done.

Lets get real here, gas prices are never going to drop once they find a new acceptable higher price so always have a beater ready if you want to play with the hotrods.

For god's sake don't get rid of your camaro. Unless you're going to get a new(er) Camaro.

Considering I went from a car with no warranty and fragile components that constantly need replacing when mildly damaged, to a car with a bumper to bumper 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty..I made the smarter choice.

Do you miss the Challenger?

Extended warranties can be purchased anytime outside of the warranty period, on just about any of the vehicle's systems, and if you find the right company they're really cheap. And, 'no warranty' is only a liability on a car when/if something actually breaks. I have a hard time believing a car that's only one model year old (assuming you had a 2010 Challenger) already has serious needs.

Just sayin'

60*5=300 miles a week
300*52= 15,600 miles a year for the commute

Lets says the Camaro gets 20mpg and another car gets 30mpg

In 1 year a camaro would go through 15600/20= 780gal
New to you car would be 15600/30= 520gal

Now lets incorporate the 4 dollars a gallon.
780*4= 3,120 dollars a year for the camaro
520*4= 2,080 dollar a year for the gas conscious vehicle

You will save a whopping 1,040 dollars a year or 87 dollars a month.

Now figure how much would you lose on your trade. If it is around 4,000 dollars, basically it will take 4 years to make the difference. Is that worth it? OHH do not forget the sales tax you will have to pay on another car also.

There is no sales tax due to a trade allowance. I pay price, pay off Camaro, get trade in cash, finance rest at a lower rate.

Coupled with Ins savings, lower payment, lower gas, and not using premium, this pays for itself in a year to one in a half, assuming current gas prices. If they go up, even sooner.

The current "hit" I'm looking at taking is 4800.

I dont miss feeding the Challenger.

What was breaking all the time was the bumper cover. Its one, large, unified piece of molded plastic that costs 800 dollars unpainted. I had to replace two due to cracks caused by things running into it and then a semi tire blowing out. The last was a raccoon that hit and tore off the spoiler and cracked the bumper cover, again.
