Am I saying that every person who purchases one of these cars wants it louder? Of course not. What I'm saying is that it's far from simply being my individual opinion.

I understand all that. And I don't want a whisper-quiet car either.

All I'm saying is that the percentage of folks who want these cars to be LOUD is far from being a majority. Maybe not even a majority among those whose cars have V8's.

I have to have a muffler where i live as well.....my resonator qualifies as a sound muffling device. Check with a local muffler shop. See what they say...they will know whats legal and what isnt. Again a muffler has nothing to do with emissions.

I realize the muffler has nothing to do with emissions, but every 2 years the vehicle must visit a Department of Environmental Quality station. My concern is that they'll see the car has no mufflers & it won't pass.

I found online, someone who asked the DEQ specifically if mufflers are required to pass testing. Whether it makes sense or not, their exact response was, "The test works on backpressure created by the muffler. Without the muffler there is no back pressure."

Noise Control Regulations For In-Use Motor Vehicles

(1) Standards and Regulations:

(a) Road Vehicles:

(B) No person shall operate a road vehicle with any of the following defects:

This follow-up comes after posting in this thread about replacing the mufflers. I the hope someone with the same question(s) that I had will find it useful.

After visiting a couple of reputable muffler shops, I learned that DEQ will only make an issue of mufflers not being installed, if the car sounds too loud during the biennial visits.

My concern with a muffler delete, is that I may not like sound of the AFM & I don't want to find out after the fact.

I also learned from the shops, that it isn't possible to simply swap the stock mufflers with aftermarket ones. There would be some modifications involved, which of course drive up the cost, to about $350 for Flowmaster Super 44 Delta Flows installed. This was confirmed by the good folks at Apex.

Another option is the Solo Axle Back with J-Pipes, which is about $650 installed.

It's a nice system, but spending that much to improve sound, isn't a high priority right now.

The learning experience has given me great options to consider & I'll probably go with one of them at some point in the near future.

I just did the magnaflow delete and it's not too loud. I have a stainless X pipe and no resonator and I can drive it quietly.
