my gas cap is faded on my SW... i am thinking to get a gas cap decal or a whole new one like they sell on ebay ( carbon fiber or chrome)

It probably changed color due to the engine heat soaking the hood, cooking the plasti-dip.

I Would try the xylene first, make sure the car is out of the sun and not blazing hot. Spray a generous amount on the hood and let sit for about a minute and power wash off, would repeat this process at least twice. If that doesn't do the trick, I the would try the clay and if that doesnt work then compounding using a cutting polish. Would leave wet sanding as an absolute last resort, the key is to start with the least aggressive route and if that doesnt work then work your way up from there till you get the desired result.
Would also recommend leaving the compounding with a cutting polish and/or wet sanding to a pro because you can destroy the paint if done incorrectly or with the wrong equipment. |

Looks like a chemical reaction not fading. Fading would be sporadic while the chemical reaction effects what is touched. Not sure why it happened to the hood and not other parts

Mine did the same thing. The sun bleached it back to white after a few weeks. No biggie.
