Interior Water!

Anyone else have an issue of water in heavy wind swept, rain? A few weeks back, after a heavy storm, I had water on the floor behind my drivers seat. I routinely power wash the car and have never really had a problem before. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. Took it to the Dealer and after they had it for a week they suggested I take it to a convertible top specialist in Birmingham. They called me and said they were finishing up and I emailed them a service bulletin I found online with pictures on how all the seals and water guides should be positioned and asked them to verify everything was correct. They said they flushed the water bag, checked everything and couldnt find the cause.

It hasn't leaked a drop since and that was 2 months and 5 torrential downpours ago.

I really think that the bag was not completely plugged but slow draining. When we had the bottom fall out with rain, a real frog strangler, it over flowed. Once it was clean and everything aligned it was all good.

Best of luck. Its frustrating and worrisome when you hear rain hitting the siding and all you can do is wonder if you'll to bail out the S.S. Camaro just to go get a chicken biscuit in the morning.

Thanks for the reply! I'll do a little research to see if I can do a DIY flush and clean out of the water bag.

Hah. I told him to do a search. Actually there’s not a lot on this particular leak and mines done it again. Wasn’t torrential, just a steady rain and I have water in the passengers side back. It seems to alter sides. I don’t see how it’s coming from the water bag or channel down either side. The trunk is dry. Anybody pull the seat and panels to figure out where it’s coming from?

This happened to me mysteriously a few years ago. I’m a coupe and I brought it to a shop and told them about this issue. They insisted I must’ve just left my windows open… to which I was replied with tremendous sarcasm “wow you’re absolutely correct I must be that stupid that every single time it rains I leave my windows open and somehow magically get a puddle only in the rear passenger side floorboard, while the seat and door remains completely dry!
It got to the point I was wet/dry vacuuming out GALLONS of water from my passenger backseat carpet every time there was hard steady rainfall and I was sick of it so I had them keep it at the shop until there was finally a storm and they saw for themselves that I wasn’t crazy. They eventually discovered it had something to do with the water drainage system being clogged/having a blockage down in the air intake near the cowl/wiper blade area and I had the satisfaction of saying “I told you so!” lol simple fix clearing it out that prevented me a lot of headaches. I’ve also heard an instance of this where the rubber trim shifted along the door jam and was misaligned redirecting the water elsewhere instead of the proper drain route. A third possibility could be A/C related with the condenser drain perhaps being clogged. Hope this helps diagnose your problem and fix it too, I know how frustrated I was during that time trying to figure it out.

I appreciate the assistance. Nothing makes sense. It’s not every time and sometimes it’s the drivers side.

You and SSTOKED have inspired me (I guess). I started pulling interior parts off on one side. The passengers (the last one that had water in it). The seats out and part of the side plastic, the top piece and the armrest. It got dark and I’m not sure how to get the clips off that hold the big side piece on. So far, I can tell there has been a little water under the back seat. I don’t see how it would to the floor pan though.

I’ve narrowed my leaks down to two areas.
1. Both door seals leak. Does this mean the bottom of the door is filling up and running inside? Why not make a hole in the plugs in the bottom of the door?
2. The seam down either side just in front of the rear wheel leak (like in the TSB). Now to argue with the dealer.

1 down, ? To go

I found and fixed one of my leaks. The weatherstrip on the quarter window was not sealing well against the door window. It’s hollow and open on the bottom so I pulled the piece off rubber that goes around the door loose and took a piece of 3/8 nylon tubing and pushed it up inside the quarter window weatherstrip. It took some lube and a rod inside the tube to force it up inside the hollow weatherstrip but it worked. No more leak between the windows.

Thanks. The one I have is d which superceded c. It includes 14-15. What I found is not covered in that. I’ll post pics and a description soon.

After pushing an inspection camera up in the open space under the water bag have the water bag is leaking in the wrinkles of material under the front drains on both sides. After messing with it to diagnose, I made the leak worse. Well good. I have looked on here, on the chilton’s site and on a parts site and I can’t find the official name or the part number of the water management bag/rear compartment gutter/whatever it’s called. Anybody know that part number? Thanks in advance.

Now I’ve found it. It’s called a storage compartment. 23124571. Anybody in the DFW area have a good place to have it replaced?
