No one has NOT confirmed it wouldn't be called Z28. All we have is an internal codename of "HP". I guess to the non-engineering world that sounds important, but it isn't. When's the last time you fired up your install of Windows Chicago or Windows Longhorn?

Internal codenames mean nothing. The only people that seem to be excited by internal codenames are people who don't understand how little they mean to a final product.

OldJedi: Way too soon? It's been in development for 2 years, who says it isn't ready?

I have little faith in rumors, but I certainly have even less faith that an internal project codename will be the final-to-market name. That's just really, really silly.

I prefer Z/28 like most of the forums here have stated. However...

just like the Corvette changes over time with new meaning to each new name... I would really easily assimilate if if they would name the new HP Camaro (with the tandem drive train as the Corvette ZR1)

I gotta disagree with you again lol, in the spy shots we have of the "Z28" isnt there one that peeks inside and shows a piece of paper taped to the dash calling it Z28? Plus all the billboard and clay modeling stuff we saw from GM way back when said Z28 on it. I still think GM just jumped the gun and called the car Z28 before they knew how the whole muscle car scene would play out down the road, and now they're skewing the name to try to get it right.
At any rate, I dont think it will show up at this auto show, i agree with everyone who said a rumor will surface before every upcoming auto show that the "Z" will make an appearance until finally it comes true. But i wouldnt hold my breath until you actually hear one way or another from someone who actually knows...same as the name

It does not say "Z28". it says "6.2L SC" or something to that effect - the engine spec.

I agree the landscape has changed, which is why I don't agree with everyone saying that the Z28 *HAS* to compete with the Boss302. No, it doesn't. GM can create another moniker for that later on. For right now, the GT500 is the king to be dethroned and that's what they're aiming at.

The name might be heritage, but what it competes against is driven by the 2011 market. There will be Z28's on the road going up against the Boss302 when both are available.

So freaking what.

Like I said, GM would be idiotic to ignore what their fans/customers have been screaming for for the past 2 years: a supercharged Camaro called the Z28.

And I believe that's exactly what they'll deliver.
