Another Tony Mamo TB Convert

After reading so many positive posts on here about how great this mod was, I knew it would only be a matter of time before I pulled the trigger on a Tony Mamo ported throttle body!

The ordering process and comms from Tony was second to none and I received the TB (here in the U.K.) beautifully packed and in good time.

Installation was a breeze, 15 minutes tops and that included changing the air filter to a Green Filter at the same time.

My car only had around 750 miles when I did the install but that is now up to just over a thousand and I have to say the improvement is very noticeable. Certainly the throttle response is a lot more linear and driveability has improved, particularly on pull away and light throttle. The most noticeable difference however is when you come off the throttle when approaching a junction for instance and then go back on it. The pick up is instant with no lag whatsoever. It really feels like the pedal is connected to the TB by a cable rather than drive by wire.

I'm still in my break in period so I haven't gone WOT yet but so far I am very happy with this mod. If you are on the fence about this then my advice is go for it. Coupled with the Green Filter it's the best bang for your buck out there (IMO)

+1 on the tony tb. Couldn’t be happier with mine. Very noticeable difference in throttle respond seems like it’s right there when you hit it. Another happy customer.

Guys, please excuse my going slightly off topic but related question for you...

I received my Mamo ported TB and am looking forward to installing it soon.

I know sometimes when doing work on our cars it's a good idea as a 1st step in a given project to disconnect the battery (and reconnect when done, obviously).

Do I need to/do you recommend that I do so for this project?
Did you, when you did your installation?

Thanks!!

You guys just popping the new one on and that's it? No tune or supporting parts other than a better air filter?

Wouldn't disconnecting the battery clear out the memory allowing the ecm to relearn the driving conditions with the new TB? Or is there not enough difference? Sorry if this is a noob question.

I didn't disconnect the battery. I would guesstimate the ECU adjusted to the changes pretty quickly-within the first 50 miles.

Forgot to mention in my OP, my car is a 2018 2SS (Euro spec) A8.

Just be careful with the wiring connector on the T/B
I broke mine. It got fixed but wasn't easy to get it done.

I didn't disconnect the battery when I did the install, and mine works great. I agree with everything the OP stated.

Installed mine last weekend (TMTB) just before it started to rain. I only put a 30 +/- miles on. Did not blow my hair back. Seems like a small bang for the buck!. With WOT the car still seemed to have slight hesitation. Maybe that is the split second it takes to downshift? Anyway, when the weather clears i will give it another try. I will say that the Range AFM disabler was a much bigger bang for the buck. It worked perfectly. I purchased the on/off switch and tested it out also. It is all good and very nice to have control over that stupid AFM.

On an M6, With the TMPTB, you will notice the difference the most in track mode, there used to be like a distinct On/off throttle point in track mode, dangerous to drive with in regular traffic. With the throttle body, the power is evened out and as they say-more linear. In sport mode, that stumble stall point (M6 when creeping along in traffic) with the clutch disappears. Makes the car more responsive-I love it.
