Need to replace windshield, Houston TX
Hey Camaro 5 family,
I had a small window crack for a half-day, decided to wait until the weekend and go get it repaired, well needless to say, I didnt make it through the weekned because the crack spread across the windshield that same night So now I have to replace the entire windshield. I took it to a place off N.Shepard in Houston and they quoted me a price of $330 bucks Just wanted to get you guys feedback, is this a reasonable price? Does anybody know of any good shops where I can get this done at a better price? Thanks, any advice would be appreciated! NOTE: I am posting this in the general and regional sections of the C5 forums.

As a point of comparison Safelite can give you a quote - I've used them in the past as they can do it at your place of work or home - their quality is great IMO - http://www.safelite.com/

I'd just call several places in your area, and if you're paying for it yourself, it's usually a cheaper price than going through your insurance. Be sure to let them know when you call. It really depends on the mark-up on the glass and their installation cost.

One of the folks from H-Town Camaro club told me they were about $500.
Your price seems good. Give Uniglass (281) 449-0808 a call. They are located on the north side out Hardy a ways. They usually have good pricing. If your closer to Pasadena try Low Price Auto Glass (713) 472-6270 they'll come to you if needed. |

Personnally I would check with your insurance company, mine will replace with the OEM windshield, not that cheap thin junk at safelite. Granted if not it will cost you $435 plus installation.

Ours has a crack too. It got a small chip under the windshiel wiper that turned into a crack pretty fast. I hope this isn't going to become a common occurence.

I had to replace the windshield on my 5 series once, let's just say I'd be more than happy to pay $300 for brand new Camaro glass

I got a star about 6 months ago and got it patched right away. I had to pay 35.00 bucks for it. Insurance won't pay anymore for it they would rather just replace the windshield do to possible glare in the eye from the star. Since it is on the passenger side I just had it fixed. If it was on drivers side I would of replaced the windshield.

Thats what Im thinking, I was wondering how many people out there who were having this same issue, if it starts to reoccur with other camaro owners, I would think this would be considered a manufacturer defect.....a recall, or something. Ive already taken it to the dealer to see if it was under warranty to get replaced and the answer I got was....NO!
