It might be time to head over to Cabela's and see if I like the feel of the S&W M&P Shield.

I've never ordered a firearm online but it might be time to figure out how to do it. Looks like I'm going to have to go talk to our local ffl dealer.

I've only bought one gun in store. All the rest were online.

Just buy the gun as you would any normal online purchase, when they ask who to ship it to they'll most likely have a list of FFL locations in your area. Just pick one and they'll ship to that dealer to do the transfer.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to give my local dealer a heads up first or just let them take care of their stuff on their end? Then when it's in just go to the dealer and finish the transfer.

It's up to you. I never do, my guy gets a ton of firearm shipments in every day and just gives me a call whenever mine arrives. I stop by whenever I get a chance, fill out the paperwork, give him $20 and I'm out the door.

If they don't have your preferred FFL on file, the FFL will have to email or fax a copy of their FFL to the seller.

You might also call around to FFLs in your area (if you don't have a go to) and ask how much they charge for the transfer. Prices can vary.

Same here, except for the part where first I have to go the FFL to get the bill of sale to take to the sheriff's office, who adds the pistol info to my CCW. That is after I pay them $3. They then give me a coupon that I take back to the FFL where I can take possession of the pistol after paying them $20.

I order offline and ship to my dealer. Pay a transfer fee but do not have to haggle with a dealer that can not buy in bulk or have much inventory. I usually can find what I want easier and cheaper online. These are my recent purchase places online.

Sportsmansguide.com
tooeleshootingsupply.com
topgunsupply.com
ammunitiondepot.com

Anyone else recommend a gun or ammo buying site? I used to use cheaperthandirt.com but I do not feel they are the powerhouse they used to be.
