carbon fiber doors will save you some weight. along with fenders and the hood. youll loose a little with the trunk. its pricey though. racing seats will help you loose 20-30 lbs per seat. but you have to consider with a carbon fiber front end if you get into an accident your kind of screwed unless you have a roll cage which weighs about what you dropped. smaller and lighter rims are the biggest way to ditch dead weight. focus on the rotating mass. like your flywheel, driveshaft and wheels. you can strip out the sound deadening material and your windshield washer reservoir and speakers and all that junk but unless your going to remove it all the weight loss is almost not even worth it. my best suggestion. get some smaller, lighter rims, and racing seats and dont race with a full tank of gas.

Yeah, Its looking as if this isn't easy to do without major sacrifices. I just don't understand how on earth this car weighs so much. It doen't make sense. Its not that big.

nobody mentioned swaping the air box to a CAI. I'll be doing tha soon and will measure the weights of both. I'm sure it will save 3-5 lbs. Plus you get more power and nmuch better looks under the hood. I'll go to a smaller windshield wiper bottle too.

For sure replacing the Headers and the Stock exhaust will easily take off about 100 pounds or even more, depends with what you will be replacing.

Things you can do to drop weight without sacrifice of safety or comfort.

Battery -10 lbs
Exaust -30 lbs
Air box -5 lbs
Driveshaft -15 lbs
Flywheel -10lbs
CF hood -5 to 10lbs
CF trunk -5 lbs
Racing seats 25lbs per seat
K-Member -15lbs

Thats roughy 100-150 lbs of weight. If im off on the numbers please correct me. These are the only things i would consider doing because they dont effect the safety, or drivability of the car. Doing stuff like removing the AC, or sound deadening material or bumpers interior is a deal beaker.

Youre never gonna be able to drop enough weight to catch or be on par with the Shelby due to the IRS.

Combine this with a kenne bell and you have a ZL1 capable of killing a Shelby in all facets of performance

It's STRONG. Take a goooood long stare at the differential to give you some idea. I like to use the word "dense". Lots of stuff in a relatively small area...

There's basically 3 types of weight on the car; static dead weight, unsprung weight, and rotational weight. The best type to reduce is unsprung rotational as that not only reduces a small amount of dead weight, it more importantly reduces the critical spinning weight that affects the handling and delivery of power to the wheels.

Unsprung is any weight not supported by the springs, such as the wheels, brake rotors, etc. I've read various estimates of the benefits but reducing unsprung rotational weight is about roughly a 10-1 ratio of benefit; reducing 1 lb of unsprung rotational has the same effect on performance that reducing 10 lbs of dead weight does.

So rather than spend thousands on carbon fiber body panels that might reduce 20 lbs of dead weight, spend those thousands on lighter brake rotors, lighter wheels, lighter clutch/flywheel, lighter driveshaft. Most of that isn't visible compared to a CF body panel but boy will you feel the difference.

Here is a link to my build thread where I've documented my quest to reduce weight on my 2010 SS without removing seats, sound insulation, gutting it, etc. The interior is stock.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...t=45165&page=2

The gross vehicle weight right now with a full tank of gas is about 3,685 lbs. All the numbers and mods with several dyno sheets showing the results of various mods are in the thread. A lot of it would be useful info for you and you get the added benefit of knowing that what I've listed works, without you having to do the research.

I'd be real interested to see what a ZL1 would do with about 100 lbs of unsprung rotational weight removed.

It is that big. You ever see it parked next to a Vette?

Try more like 40 lbs and that's with an off road X pipe. Hell the entire stock exhaust weighs 128 lbs. The only way you ate gonna lose 100 lbs is if you run open headers.

Hell yes, losing 66 lbs of wheel/tire made my car faster than all my bolt ons combined!

Are there any specifically light weight wheels you guys suggest? It's my daily driver (only driver) but would love to shave some lbs for performance!

Magnesium was used on vette once but apparently were extremely dangerous (super flammable).

How much do the p-zeros + RS rims actually weigh?
