Insurance Agent: "Chevrolet is so much better than Ford"

So my girlfriend and I are looking into getting her a 2010 SS/RS. She currrently owns a 2012 ford fiesta. I called to get a quote on the SS...so we ran the numbers and the 6 month premium went down $100 bucks. She was surprised at that and so was I. She figured something was wrong so she transferred me to her manager. Ran them again and again got 100 less. So she said...."well now that I think about it must be because our rated are typically lower for Chevy. Chevy is just built so much stronger and are so much more reliable. So that's probably why".

With that...they just gained me for a customer for years to come lol. Thought id share. This is Esurance.

Was she blond? what the heck does reliability or strength have to do with insurance? And what does stronger mean? if it hits something it does more damage? That statement makes no sense.

IF insurance rates are lower compared to Ford, and she wasn't just feeding you a line, odds are that it means the parts for Chevy on average cost less, the resale of Chevy is lower than Ford or both......reliability? really? I would be leery of getting insurance from her....

My bet is she tells the Ford people the same thing, just in the opposite order....

Possibly, but if the car is safer and has a better track record of reduced injuries in accidents then the insurance rates could be lower due to the overall lower cost to the insurance company on claims for said vehicle.

I bet the reason for the lower price is cause the car is not New and the fiesta was newer so more to insure. Same thing happened when I traded my 11 Ls Camaro for the 10 SS Camaro my insurance lowered and asked why the agent said cause it was a older model car.
