Difference between M and S mode ????

I know I am probably being lazy by not looking at my owners manual but what's the difference between these two . Also , when should they be used . I just put it in D and go but for some reason the S mode peaks my interest . Thanks , Chris

Just put it in 'R' for 'Race'.

S mode is sports-mode and will shift automatically. M mode is after you tap one of the shift paddles. From then on, you need to manually use the paddles to shift gears.

So sport mode makes the vehicle shift at different points than Drive ?

That's correct. It's a ton of fun. You should give it a try. It's like driving a totally different car.

D = Drive
S = Sport - tranmission will hold each gear a little longer on the upshift and downshift for sportier feel.
M = Manually shifted - once you hit the tap shifts you have to manually upshift each gear.

In M mode, you have to upshift on your own, but downshift can either be done by you or the computer. Try downshift on your own into a curve or passing, it's amazing. There is always protection as the computer will deny your shift if it thinks it's not appropriate, so test it out. The manual upshifting is quicker and firmer if you rev up the engine before shifting (with or without easing up on the brake, try both). Have fun....

LOL too funny cam fan!

Having the V6 and enjoying it, I can only image the extra the V8 would bring to the table. Downshifting and passing with the V6 is pretty impressive. I've been enjoying the A6.

If you are driving in Sport Mode, and you tap the shifter...you will be in "M" (manual). If you want to switch back to Sport Mode again...hold the right paddle for a few seconds and it will put you back in Sport Mode.
