elite oil catch can
Hello, I just checked my elite catch can, and was amazed on how much oil was in there... it was more then a quarter filled with only a few thousand miles on it.. just to think of all that oil going into the intake.. I do have one question, I poured the oil back into the engine... after thinking about it was that the right thing to do.. if its not should I get a oil change.. oh another thing, I remember seeing a thread on how the catch can fell off the post and caused alot of damage with the pulleys and things, mine was loose also, so I made it tight again and will keep an eye on it for a while.. if you have one make sure you check it once in a while..

Pouring the oil back in the engine shouldn't be a problem assuming the catch can is free of manufacturing debri. You might try some Locktite on the threads of the mounting hardware on the catch can.
I recently removed the throttle body on my engine and found oil on the floor of the intake manifold...so I'm in the market for a catch can. |

I would not pour it back in. I would think the oil vapors it catches is broken down oil but what do I know.,

Don't pour it back in. More than just oil is in there. Other stuff you can't see is mixed in. Just empty it when you change your oil and you should be good.

NEVER put what comes out of your can back in to the crankcase!!! alnog with the oil the can caught, it also contains the harmfull combustion by-products. Just a few I'll list:
Unburnt fuel (dilutes the piol and reduces the lubricating properties) water (the amount of water vapor removed for the crankcase is amazing) carbon particles (very abrasive, and not what you want in your oil) Sufuric acid (a result of mixing of the other compunds and very corrosive to the internal parts) and a ton more. The oil caught should be disposed of as your drain oil is. |

With all the extra stuff listed in SC2150's post, I would suggest you do an oil change immediately to get that stuff out of your engine.

You should send a pm to EE on this site. They will send you a new mounting bracket or bolt. The problem with the original mounting method is not that the bracket will come loose, but rather that the stock bolt will eventually snap from fatigue. You need to get one of the new brackets or bolts. Read that thread others have pointed you to. I got my new bracket this week.

The will send you a stronger bolt so that you can mount it in the same way it is now, but he new bolt won't break.
This problem has occurred on several cars. You don't want to leave it as is with the stock bolt. Here is the post: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=100 You want the new bolt (option A) if you want to keep it mounted in the same location it is in now. |
