While Road Racing, has anyone had an axle pop out of the diff?

Did an HPDI event at NCM motorsports today -- awesome track.

Had 2 sessions and no issues at all -- everything was perfect. On the last session, we pushed the cars harder. After about 15 minutes into the 3rd session, I was 'meatballed' off the track due to what appeared to be a fluid leak.

After we jacked up the car, I noticed the left rear axle pulled out about 1/2 inch and leaked diff fluid. I was able to push it back in and verified it would not come back out (I tugged the heck out of it and it was rock solid). We all were stumped as these are DSS 1000 HP axles. I have several thousand miles on them and this was a total shock. The only thing we can surmise is the clip fatigue from heat and allow the axle to slide out a bit. Once it cooled down, no issues at all. Did several figure 8's, circles left and right, drove it on the highway, stopped and double checked -- no leaks and the axle was still in place.

Note: I did make sure the axles were in all the way when I did them (you can see that on my build) so they did 'pop' in with some force when I installed them. After a couple tracking events and miles on them, never leaked or pulled out.

Has this happened to anyone? Just curious as I'll be calling DSS to see what they say -- it was only 71* out today here in Bowling Green.

Thanks!

-Don

I usually see that axle broken after a hard left turn (see turn 11 at Laguna).....Stock gears or upgraded to 391's?

Sorry, didn't see your question.

this was running stock diff, 3.45 gear upgrade (sold the 3.91s') and carrier had the posi-mod. The diff bushings were shot so went with the offset Delrin from Hendrix -- big difference so far (including more noise), but can't wait for NCM!
