01 Z28: thinking about changing wheels - question

I'm sure most of you guys with think this is a stupid question but I've never modified the Camaros I've had. Here goes.

I have 245/50/16s on my car now. I'm thinking about putting on (same ZR1 rims) 275/40/17s, 9 1/2" in front 11" in back. Will the 11" rim/wheel stick out past the car? The rim manufacturer is Liquid Silver, ever heard of them? And will the change in tire size eat up any of the space in my wheel well or will I still need to lower it?

Everything you need to know is here: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/wheels...must-read.html

I had 17x11 rims on mine for years (now 18x11).

With the right offset (+45 to +56 mm offset) they will not stick out.

However, nearly all have to clearance the inside with BFH mod (
)

Tire height will be the same as you have now. If you are happy with the gaps you do not need to lower. (It will look better if lowered.) I do recommend wider tires on the 17x11 in rear, 315/35/17 is the same height.

Thanks, that's a nice looking ride and the fender well gap is what I'm looking for. Are those the 17 or 18" in the pic?

Those are 18x9 front, 18x11 rear. Rear wheel offset is +53MM. Car is lowered 2" to make the fender gap like that. If you are going to lower your car with 11" rims don't forget to get an adjustable panhard bar. Lowering will push drivers side out a little and pull in passenger, the adj. panhard bar allows you to re-center the rear end.

I have not rolled my fenders. Depends on the car and wheel offset.

Rolling the fenders: Feel the outside of your fender well, the metal sticks in about 1/2". That is the fender lip. Rolling the fenders is folding that lip up against the inside of the fenderwell. Can be done with a hammer but there is a tool made specifically for it. If you need, I recommend you use some in your area with body work experiece. I'm sure someone in the Bay area on LS1Tech.com owns the tool.

I know what you mean, I can't wait to get my watts link so I can get my rear centered. I still need to do the BFH mod, I get a little rubbing on hard turns. I think the offset on my rims are somewhere between 56-54mm. There was a possibility for the fender to slice my tire
