Tadge said a mid engine car would only be $5k more than a front engine car.

Yeah...just b/c its mid-engine doesn't mean its automatically a 6 figure car. No way. The lower tier mid engine cars should be able to be priced in the same ballpark as the current C7. That said, I'm betting the initial mid engine car we see will be of a higher performance and of course more $$$

I think it's going to be at least 6 figures. It's going to compete with the 911's. When it's 5 years or so old and has over 100K on it, then maybe the average enthusiast can manage to slide into it without a second mortgage. Just my thoughts, nothing to base it on.

Other than being mid engine, what would make it sticker for over 100k?

It’s the same chassis style as the C7. It’s not carbon fiber or some other exotic material.

We just sold three Z06/07 C7s at 107-110k in the past two years at my dealership, which was sticker price. I doubt they will let the mid engine go for much less

Of course not....for the versions packing that much power and performance.

But a base model with an naturally aspirated LT1 V8, non-MRC suspension, smaller brakes, less interior features, etc... could still start in the 60 or 70K range. I don't see why not.

Based on what?

The performance versions probably will be $100k+ but the base will likely be close to a C7 Stingray.

Pricing is all based on speculation. Who's to say they even offer a "budget" version at all. What if it's strictly their mad-dash performance car in one trim and the front engine corvette keeps it's spot along side? Only a few people know all the answers about it all right now.

Making the case for the mid-engine Corvette
Price it at around $120K, and then suck the doors off everybody.
BY Bob Lutz JAN 15, 2015

I first saw rough plans for a mid-engine Corvette around 2003. That's when we were starting to think seriously about a replacement for the C6. GM's head of engineering, Jim Queen, came to see me and said,

"The next one's got to be mid-engine."
Tadge Juechter had a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating, very credibly, that the C6 ZR1 was at the limit of usable rear-wheel-drive performance. The problem was really the front-mid-engine layout—we couldn't get the engine low enough and far back enough for proper weight transfer to the rear wheels under acceleration.

I didn't want to move out of our price class, but Tadge explained that while the transmission would cost more, the list price would increase by no more than $5000. Imagine an American-built car with the proportions of a Lamborghini at that price point …that's pretty appealing.

I’m saying a lot of time has past since 2003 so it may be unrealistic to hold him to that statement. Expectations for a performance car are a lot higher, technological advancements, different corporate culture, etc.

Plus. Everyone knows engineers are overly optimistic when pitching a new idea for a project.

That's fair. I forgot how long ago he said that but I don't expect a huge price increase for the mid engine. The structure of the mid engine is very similar to the standard Corvette, which should keep costs down quite a bit.
