NGK TR6 iridium plugs in a n/a cammed car

A friend installed NGK TR6 (V-POWER) iridium plugs in his 2010 SS L99 with just bolt-ons and told me that the difference is huge. He said that the upgrade was well worth the money.

I do have a 2011 SS with aftermarket heads, cam and bolt-ons. (compression 11:1). No F/I.

Will it be worth to upgrade?

I also have a l99 with cam and bolt ons. I was actually also recommended these last week. I was also told to space the gap in the spark plugs to 40 thousandths (0.040). I am going to put them in in a couple days

It's a colder plug, I have them on my 12-1 compression Ls3 stroker in my sig and I would go with the Tr5.

Isn't the rule of thumb 1 step colder for each 100 hp gain??

yes if cylinder pressure is increased as a result. some cams can lower dynamic compression ratio.

op said bolt ons. that doesn't necessitate colder plugs. nitrous or forced induction and some cams depending on valve events.

Okay - With my friends setup (Intake, Headers, Exhaust) the NGK TR6 iridium plugs might seem to be a lil overkill.

But whats with my setup? I have higher compression (11:1), cam and heads. Are they really to cold for my setup?

you could try it and see. that cam does not have any positive overlap. just put them in, see how they feel at idle and part throttle. check them once in a whole to see if they start fouling.

I took the TR6 plugs out of my car and put the factory plugs back in and I thought the car idled and ran a bit smoother. I didn't notice any gain or loss in power.

Ted Jannetty was the one who recommended I try this. He said he runs factory plugs with all of his bolt on & cam cars.
