According to motortrend, the lightest version of the 370z is 3230 pounds, roughly 88 lbs lighter than the last generation. Certainly not 200-300 lbs, the number many were hoping for. The hp added was only at the top end so driveability is not likely to be much different than before. I still think driving a Mustang will be more fun due to the torque available, you will still have to work the z pretty hard to get into the power band. Peak hp numbers are just that...peak numbers that don't have that much to do with driveability and power under the curve.

they took off 200lbish with the use of Carbon Fiber and lighter metals, but lost alot of that due to saftey.

well if your talking about the curve you must know that the new torque powerband peaks 2-5krpm for added low end power.

That does'nt really make any sense. The only weight number that matters is the final one. Adding 10 lbs and taking it off somewhere else is not really a material issue to the end user. But now I understand what you were trying to say.

And the peak is at what #???? 270 ft lbs or so. A 3.7L v6 is just that, I don't care how many valves it has.

MotorTrend doesn't exactly have a reputation for the most accurate information. Also, is that a review, or a preview? The Car and Driver article is a test review, meaning they've actually evaluated the car and not made estimations as are done in previews.

I'm just going to copy Car and Driver word for word from the article, since I don't have a scanner or anything like that; I'm afraid you'll have to take my word for what I post. They list the weight as 3350-3400 depending on what options you get with it. This is in comparison to the 3320 of the 350Z. Still, an 80 lb. max increase isn't bad at all considering how much weight is increasing in many other vehicles.

I'll try and find time tonight to copy the article, but it'll probably be closer to midnight as I've been procrastinating on some writing that needs attention.

yea right away that stands out as BS, i saw a spread sheet (ive been looking for it since this debate came up but i cant find it) that showed all the different versions of the car, and the weight, and the manual was under 3300lbs.

It was something straight from Nissan, so im going to go with that.

ps. Motor trend did a review of the Z weeks before it came out because Nissan choose them to reveal it to first... in this case, Motortrend>anything else.

If you don't believe me, then it's your problem, not mine. It's not even a "debate" as much as it is me just telling you what a car magazine said and you feeling the need to act like a tool. When the Jan '09 C&D comes out, look at it in the drugstore. I'm just telling you what I read, you don't need to be a douche and call me a liar about it.

im not calling you a liar, im telling you your wrong.

i dont doubt that is what is printed, but i doubt that a magazine knows more about a product than the producer.

Hard to say. Publishers (and even automakers themselves) often fail to specify what stage of production a car was in when it was evaluated, or what equipment (or lack thereof) was on the car at the time.

Time will tell. Either way, I predict that the 2010 Mustang GT will match the 5.0 0-60 and the 13.6 quarter of the Z. One has weight on its side, but the other has torque and displacement.

if you have a manual 370z, and you can drive, you'll do 0-60 in 4.8

But anyways, the 2011 stang should receive a power upgrade, so the Cars will go back to being Handling vs. Straight line speed.

The Mustang will never match the Z through the corners, and the Z doesnt have the Torque to take the Mustang through the straights. BUT. You turbo the Z... and you have yourself one hell of a machine.
