Avis Camaro Rental review
So I lived the dream for a day! As much as I want to get this car, just had to get an extended test drive to really see if I liked it, and my bad back could handle the suspension.....
Overall, I was impressed. Rented a 1lt, with 18" wheels. The ride overall was pretty good. Stutter bumps were a little harsh, but it seemed to handle and ride pretty darn good overall for a sports car. (just wonder how the preferred 20" wheels would affect ride quality) Only quips would be lack of lumbar support, and the 1lt interior was a little on the plain side. Came to the conclusion that I still really want this car, but for the sake of my back, would have to hang onto the 06' Impala as daily-driver, and drive the Maro' on a more limited evening/weekend basis....The car rocks...Now I just have to find a way to afford this dream longterm. Rental was a bit spendy (190.00 for one day after taxes/surcharges), but well worth it for anyone on fence about getting one. |

I'm in the same boat. Recession stole half my income.
I have a bad back too. I had an SS reserved at AVIS, but decided not to tortue myself and cancelled. It was $118 a day at Ft.Lauderdale Airport. idk...

Sorry to hear. I hope things turn around for you too. From what I've read last few months here, sounds like the V-6's have a much cushier ride. Hope you can find a way to get one too! |

We to rented a 1LT from the Minneapolis airport. And agree with the somewhat plain interior compared to the 2LT and 2SS. Just another reminder to everyone wanting to rent the Camaro from Avis and not wanting to pay the hefty rates like the above. Reserve a full-sized vehicle and then upgrade. Then negotiate the upgrade. We reserved a full-size vehicle for $44/per day and negotiated an upgrade for the 1LT for $65/per day and had it for 5 glorious days.

Yes, and now I'm thinking 2lt....the price of this dream car keeps rising..lol I thought the V-6 would maybe have a little more "oomph", but I didn't press it too much either....on the other hand, it moved out plenty fast enough for my needs....Was surprised by how quiet the V-6 is. While a little more of that v-8 rumble would be cool, I'm glad GM didn't take approach they have with some Pontiac cars, with the artificial tinny/raspy sounding exhaust setup. |

Yep, I think its fairly easy to get the seat modded with some added lumbar support. My 06' Impala LS (base model) came with lumbar adjust....Kind of a mystery with GM doesn't offer it even on the loaded Camaros ...But this car is still well worth the money!

FYI guys!!!...I have the 2LT/RS V6 and have a million issues with my lower back...too many to list here...:(
I ordered my Camaro having never sat in it, driven it, or seen it in person, so I was quite afraid for my back... I bought this car on "faith" alone... Let me tell you all firsthand, I have NEVER in my life driven or been a passenger in a more COMFORTABLE CAR, HANDS DOWN, PERIOD!!!... We bought the car in Virginia from a friend of mine that I hadn't seen or been in contact with in over 25 yrs...and I live in NY...we had just re-connected on classmates.com last fall... I have not taken ANY road trips in at least 5-6 yrs due to the "back issues", so I had told my hubby after being in EXCRUCIATING PAIN just from packing, that if it wasn't for getting to see my friend, that I would send him alone to Virginia by Amtrak to pick up the car...:( However, I was very anxious to see my friend, so I "sucked it up" and made the trip...after driving home over 300+ miles, with stops every 60-90 minutes to stretch, I was feeling 100% comfortable for the ENTIRE TRIP!!!... I felt so good making that trip, that when the Fbodfather invited me to Carlisle, PA for the Camaro/GM Nationals last month, I went!!!...that trip was at least 250 miles each way, and again, I was completely comfortable there and back...the most pain I suffered was from doing a lot of walking at the Carlisle fairgrounds...that place was huge... But, since I was soooooooo thrilled to finally get to see a lot of other 2010 Camaros besides my own, I couldn't get rid of my "PERMAGRIN" all day...also, I got to meet Scott, aka the Fbodfather, as well as some of the "dream team" that was involved with the creation of the 5th Gen Camaro...I also got to meet some of the forum members too... If you check me out in my Carlisle photo album, you will see the biggest smile on my face, despite the pain I was in from all the walking and standing... My husband suggested I use the "heated seats" feature on the trip home, as my back is the stiffest in the morning and that's when we were leaving to go home ...I would never have thought of that, but I tried it and it worked like a heating pad...and since the AC is so amazingly cold as you need it to be, the heated seat did not bother me at all and soothed my sore back... I have had cars with so-called lumbar support, and I was not as comfortable as I was in my Camaro...I always feel like a "spokesperson" for the car, as I am so totally thrilled beyond reason with this car... It is the most AMAZING, EXCITING, THRILLING, car I have ever owned or driven, PERIOD...AND that includes my '76 Firebird and our '95 Corvette that we bought 3 yrs ago...I thought it couldn't get any better than those 2, but the Camaro is "all that" and MORE...I cannot "sing it's praises" enough without writing a book...LOL... Take my word for it and the words of the many other happy, satisfied, "permagrin" Camaro fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Just one fan's opinion here... |

Great reviews Derby and Prima Donna, Derby, I agree with Donna in the respect that at "our" age, the upgrade in packages to the 2LT RS for me was well worth the price as it is my daily driver. I'm constantly trying new seat configurations to see what works best. @ hours is the longest trip I've taken, 90% highway and it is one comfortable ride. Glad I got the 2LTRS
