IF BANKRUPT Will They Still Make Our Cars

Just curious, if GM files bankruptcy, will that slow down or hault the production of our cars being built?

There will probably a lot of speculative answers for this one, but it would take someone(s) to make an accurate statement about this.

I for one have no idea.

GM plans to be in and out of bankruptcy fast. Like on the order of days, at least for its main brands (Chevy, GMC, Buick, Cadillac). They are still working on many great things coming in the future, and aren't "shutting down" operations because of bankruptcy. If there is any hitch in the production of Camaros, it will be brief. GM knows this car needs to be successful, and will build them as fast as they can.

They will atleast while its generating them profits. However, if the new restructured company will be headed by tree hugging hippies, then we might see a decrease in SS production and possible power and further improvements on the LSx engines.

In the short term, yes. Camaro production should be largely unaffected.

The long term plans for high performance cars are definitely not as certain.

Not in the slightest. Chevy and Cadillac are planned to be in and out with some newly found cash funds from canceled contracts. Buick may join them while Hummer, GMC, Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab languish due to redundancy.

Caddy, Buick, and Chevy. The New GM..

The bankruptcy would be Chapter 11, which means the company continues to do business while it sheds some debt. Union contracts ARE fair game in a bankruptcy, so if they try to shed the union contracts it might cause a work stoppage. Other than that, I can't see anything to stop production. But the negative publicity to GM is what the General is worried about- will people want to buy a Malibu over a Toyota with a bankruptcy looming? We'll see.

Smart people will.

A sleek, stylish Malibu...or a bloated, overrated camry...

I'm not worried in the slightest about the Camaro, but it will be interesting to see how they treat the bondholders since many of them are insured by AIG. My prediction is bondholders with manage to increase the value of the worthless bonds, Retirees and employees will see reduced wages and benefits(this will be attributed to the free market), and AIG will receive another 170 billion taxpayer dollars because their "to big to fail." We will continue on this course until even Sudanese feel sorry for our working class and the Camaro will be selling better in China because few Americans can afford one. Oh yea, the new and improved GM will emerge and move their Corporate HQ's to Bahrain to avoid Corporate taxes.

Probably not but could you imagine how much our cars would be worth if everyone on here got there's and then Obama pulls the plug on the Camaro? under 10k made?

Even if the situtiation went fubar, Chapter 11 isn't synonymous with "out of business". As they go through the filing procedures, and the courts, etc, etc, etc; they'll carry on building vehicles like business as usual. That includes Camaro.

Plus, as a few of you said -- they (that means, the company and the government) want to get the core brands out of the issue REAL fast.

No worries on that.
