Gulf Coast appears at this time to be my choice when i am ready to order, I am leaning towards Aluminum now but we'll see. Glad its working out for you.

Ashen Still happy ? Figured I would ask one more time as i believe I will be ordering from Gulf Coast next week, Going to get the Aluminum version.


I Guess one of the major differences between shafts is the type of joint they use.

OP, I ran a 4 inch 1 piece aluminum driveshaft made by Thrash in San Antonio… 1350 yokes on both ends… I put over 2400 hp to it in 5th gear at over 225 mph, never broke a sweat…

All the NVH comments are ok, until you want to go fast… I ran motor plates, delrin bushings on the diff, silicone bushings on the cradle, a solid trans mount and I felt every bump wiggle, crack, pebble, and tossed wheel weight I ever came across… I guess I should also mention the full containment race seat… With a 3.5 inch dual exhaust and Magna Force 3.5 in/out mufflers, car was quiet considering the power level… No drone…

Any single piece is preferable to the two piece, and eliminating guibo joints is always a good thing… CF shafts are ok if you wanna spend the money, but I got my shaft in two days for less than $450 with yokes and U-joints and never missed a beat… Running a DSS pumpkin, Strange center section and a wave track diff… 3.07 gears… Bullet proof…

The shaft in previous pictures looks first class…

NVH wouldn't bother me in a build like that, Glad i started this thread because I probably would never have heard of Gulf Coast ( they used to go by DSS but changed because of the more well known business ) . When you search for 5 Th Gen Shafts DSS usually is the only one you hear about.

I am looking at either gulf coast or pstds 3.5 aluminum. Currently have a 3x.083 mild steel with 1350 for the strange s60 rear and a sonnax 1350 to tr6060 Not to happy with it seems to vibrate at about 90ish. Hopefully a shaft from either one of this companies will be better then what I got.

Ordered from Gulf Coast today, Ashen did you end up using the stock size bolts? you are running a ZL1 rear so are the bolts they send with the shaft correct for SS rear? I don't want to really get into modifying the shaft. Thanks

No, I drilled out the flange on the driveshaft to fit the larger bolts for the ZL1 diff.

The bolts they supply will work fine on the SS diff.
