Z28 Flat tire

Hi All - Drove over a small nail in my garage and fully flattened the front left Trofeo much to my disgust. Z28 does not seem to have a jack and tire iron. I'm supposed to use the emergency inflator kit but I want to keep theat for the road (or is there a jack and tire iron somewhere in the car???). Are the jacking points for the Z28 unusual/any different from any other car? Just pick a point on chassis just inside from the wheel??? Or are there issues to watch out for? Any advice appreciated. Also can a Trofeo with a hole in it be repaired or is it toast now? Thank you very much.

I've had two flats fixed with plugs, both on the rear. Both were in the tread, no where near the sidewall. No issue, they've both been running w/o issue since. I bought an amazon kit with plugs, an inflation pump etc. or you but the $$$ GM kit.
Oh and I didn't use the slime...

Here's what I got:

Lifting (Jack) points illustrated in this thread.

If you're lifting on the pinch welds (green boxes in the image from the post above), make sure you have a jack designed for it, or appropriate jack pads, similar to these.

A low-clearance floor jack will work on the frame lifting points (green arrows in the image).

there is no jack or tire iron included with the Z/28. My car doesn't have a tire inflator either.

You plugged a track tire? Please tell me you will fix it before tracking it. You know when the tire heats up the plugs come out. Those will not pass tech and it is very unsafe.

Not a one has a jack. Only those sold in states requiring the inflator by law got those.

GM assumed people buying a track car would have a jack. There are two next to my car.

Man the stuff you come up with...A plug be no issue at all on the track the plug heats and expands with the tire. Check with Bondurant they do this all the time with their track tires to save on costs. Also NO track checks for plugs on tires ever for HPDE days. Since you are such a wealth on track knowledge what is you SCCA Lic#? or NASA

My track does and the Porsche club has. I have no idea what SCCA or NASA does I highly doubt the OP is using his car for that. If I tech that car I am to fail it for plugs. I have seen the Porsche inspector fail a Corvette for plugs. The tech is actually tighter on street cars. If I take my plates of and trailer my vette I get an instant pass. Porsche doesn't even tech track cars. The Porsche tech was not looking for plugs but noticed one. They asked about it and told the guy to get it fixed correctly before the next event.

My SCCA Member number is: 503517. I am still working on my license.

Actually NASA says not to use them
https://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/preparing.html

Tire rack agrees.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=77

Motor week agrees
http://www.motorweek.org/features/go...or_not_to_plug

Corvette Forum agrees it drops the speed rating.
http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-it-today.html

So... where do I get this stuff... From life experience, common sense and reading what others says.

One more... here are the actually legal rules. You cannot simply plug a Z rated tire.
https://www.goodyear.com/cfmx/web/go...e/psb_9811.cfm

Its not my $50,000 car and I wont be on the track with you so plug away. Personally I will stick with what all those articles say and get the tire fixed correctly.

"Guidelines allow the repair of punctures in a tire's tread area of up to 1/4" in diameter. Repair of larger tread punctures and of punctures to the tire's shoulder and sidewall areas are not recommended."

While almost any sharp object left on the road can cause a puncture, most are caused by small nails and screws (typically less than 1/4" in diameter).

From your link

Again nothing about plug dropping out of an expanded hole in a tire. Your SCCA member number must be super new since the newest member number on the SCCA website is still in the 480's.

But they are not just plugged with a $5 kit from walmart. They are properly patched.

Last year. I don't have the money to compete. I am joining a team this year, few friends who will let me share there car and help get my license. This is a very expensive hobby and not everyone can afford to take it to that level. Im trying... That doesn't mean that everyone who doesn't have that license is stupid. Cheap plugs shoved in a race tire are not safe. I would do it in a second to finish a real race... but I would not start the race that way. I would fix it right.

I am planning around 8 two day HPDE's this year. Not racing in SCCA does not mean I am not on a track, around a track or building cars.

Are you in Colorado? Im thinking about doing the Pueblo HDPE in March? I have never done a NASA event and have been trying to find out if I need anything different then the Porsche and Corvette club events?

You should come down to La Junta. I am the VP of the Club.

I have not been to Pueblo since my PCA days but fun track except for the drag strip crossing very unsettling. Just wanted to see if you wanted to hook up for an HPDE at a local track. You would love High Plains.
