plasti-dipping or bedliner?

I was considering plasti-dipping my rims but then one day something utterly sickening happened... I scrubbed a curb.

It made me wonder about the bedliner material they put in truck / ute beds. The stuff is hugely durable, it's even bomb proof.

Would bedliner be a decent alternative that also protects the rims from scrubs due to my own clumsiness?

If sprayed by a HVLP sprayer it will lay flat. Find a shop that is willing to give it a try and use a test rim.

I had my front Street Scene Splitter sprayed with Rhino bedliner and it came out great . I was told that if you don't have the textured finish applied the smooth look comes out with lite and dark streaks In the coating. You may want to call and ask that question. Cost was $35 .

Talked to him just now, I'll need to bring it by to him because he wants to get a hands on feel of the wheel before he can say that it would be a viable alternative, but if it is, he's sure that it would be curb proof. I'll probably stop by next monday/tuesday to let him have a look.

They say that the finish is a little shiny, at first, but it will flatten over time; but if it protects my car from my clumsiness at parking, I'm all over it.

The only thing I worry about is whether or not it will significantly affect the weight of the wheels meaning I'll have to have them re-balanced.

That is considered non remomvable in my book. Especially because the act of removing it can damage the object underneath. Plastidip peels off easily.

you would need to get the wheels rebalanced. But you could have some wicked vibrations. Which you wouldn't know about until after you did it.

I'm sure if I took it straight over to the dealership, or any other tire place, I could get them rebalanced.

Let us know how it turns out. But I think steiger is correct. That stuff is thick, heavy, tough and doesn't lay evenly. I'm sure you can figure out what's gonna happen.

First I'm taking it to line-x to see if it's even feasible. The shop I called has a reputation to protect and isn't likely to be careless with it. If he doesn't feel it will lay flat or will be problematic, he'll say so and won't want to do it.

=edit=

Which is what happened. He was suddenly very concerned with wheel balance and apologised for wasting my time.
