I've driven several 6th gens and Caddy ATS's and while the alpha platform is slightly lighter with faster steering response, it is not a sports car. It still feels solid and heavy, and has too many seats. It actually drives very similar to a 5th gen just with a lighter touch. Hell a Corvette is considered heavy for a sports car. So is an ATSV sedan a sports car too? Or a C63?

Redefining a term? That sounds like marketing to euro buyers to me. How does 1 car redefine a segment?

My definition...

Sports car (noun): A performance oriented vehicle that possesses nimble handling characteristics and contains no more than two seats.

Haha I bought it because I specifically wanted an American muscle car. But even a Z/28 isn't a sports car. There's no third gender here

Lol....wait for it.....the Z/28 will be the next "sports car" . I remember reading an article where the writer even had the Challenger mixed in with the Camaro sports car...and the Mustang sports car.

That would be the 5th generation Camaro, 5th generation Mustang & the Challenger.

There are more cars than Camaro redefining the segment.

We all dislike change & we'll push back kicking & screaming, but the auto industry is evolving & segments are being redefined with or without us.

The UJM went thru this years ago, HD is going thru it now.

So, you consider the 5th Gen Camaro to be a modern muscle car and the 6th Gen to be a sports car? Considering that the 6th Gen is simply an evolution of the 5th Gen, what qualifies it to be a sports car? Its lower weight?

Yes, I believe the Camaro evolved from a modern muscle car in the 5th generation, to a modern sports car in the 6th generation.

Merriam-Webster:

Sports Car - a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving.

Let me be clear, I'm not stating that it's white vs black. My point is that lines have been blurred & there's an evolution occurring in redefining segments. I'm confident the 7th generation Camaro & Mustang will move even deeper into sports car territory.

I wish a 5th generation SS & 6th generation V6 would simply meet at a track to settle it - with video evidence. Of course, with equally skilled & similar weight drivers.

Maybe an autocross parking lot it may be competitive. otherwise it has no chance, sorry. Just because the term sports car sounds hip doesn't make the 6gen one. A Cayman, Miata, Z4 etc are sports cars. Hp has buying to do with it. A Guilia Quadrifoglio supposedly out handles most everything, still not a sports car and it weighs less than most 6gens
