Car on jackstands, engine running, tranmission in gear
Any reason not to do this? It can be handy at times for testing, troubleshooting, etc.
I am hesitant because I am not sure about letting the rear suspension sag with power going to the wheels. I have done this with a solid rear axle and jackstands below the axle housing (suspension loaded). Worked great. Not so sure about the camaro with IRS and the suspension unloaded. So, what do you think? |

I did it trying to isolate the source of a rear end howling noise. I don’t think you can hurt anything, unless you get your face between the tire and the fender.

It'll throw a bunch of warning lights but they'll go away as soon as you drive down the street.

not sure the CVs like those angles so be careful. Taking the rear tires off will help.

I've done it many times with front wheel drive vehicles. With good jack stands the danger is minimal. Just build up rpm slowly, and be ready to hit the brakes if you get any bad vibration. As an added safety factor you could do it outside and not pointed at anything.
