My bro-in-law and sister are moving out there, He's there right now and jogs to work(Navy) instead of driving, when my sisters is able to move out there(recently married) they will have their 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited taken from Dallas around through the Panama Canal to Hawaii, Navy pays for all of it(I think it would have been like $1,500-$3,000, which means $20k markup is ridiculous because it doesnt take $20k to ship a car)....

Much easier to just ship your Camaro from Seattle or Los Angeles in a covered container for $1000 buckaroos.

But yeah, folks are actually paying the markup.

that's really f**ked!..unbelievably ''stupid"..some of these so called "dealers"

I'd just order one and have it shipped over. Ridiculous. Heck, someone can pay me $3,000 markup and I will even pay for the shipping, in a sealer container with it on the top rack on the container.

I also think Hawaii has import restrictions on cars coming into the state.
I bet if you go to the dealer in Maui and complain about the markup, the salesman probably would say.."fine, go ahead and try to import one". He knows you can't.
How about members who buy the camaro's from scotty or Becky and have them shipped to calif.

Realistically, it's pointless to buy a car let alone a camaro at all for anyone living in Maui. The whole island is barely 20 miles in length lol! You can't speed, takes 11 seconds to get virtually anywhere, and costs 4 billion dollars per gallon of gas . I'd save the cash and pay for a driving service for years at that price lol.

When I lived in Kona on the big island The jeep dealerships there had a $10k markup on wrangler rubicons.

Wound up buying one in Texas for a good price and only paid about $1,500 for shipping.
Hawaii dealers will try to add a markup to most cars then tell people they can't ship in new cars.

Some people believe it, others know it's BS.
Hell the lot at the port in Hilo looked like the back lot of a dealership with all the new cars in it.

I am partially mistaken on this issue. As long as the camaro is optioned with "california emissions" it is legal to import immediately to Ca. Otherwise you have to wait until it has 7500 miles before you register it. IIRC, all Camaros meet emissions in all 50 states so you should be good to go. As a side note though, my son ordered a new Camaro in Ca and it was required to have "California emissions" as part of it's RPO. I am not sure if that means it's legal to register in Ca when an identifcal out of state car may not be legal to register even though the emissions on both vehicles are identical. Here is the law.

For 20k you could strap pontoons on the thing and drive the dang thing to Maui...

As the General Manager of a car dealership, I'd like to personally apologize for every dealership that does crap like this to people.
