There was a lot of hand waving with the above statement -- take less than half and add up the allocations? What allocation numbers did you use to arrive at 1,500?

The 1,500 number could, in fact, be correct, but you have provided no reasonable basis to support it, other than stating that it comes from a very reliable source, which we have no way of verifying.

A dealer can order as many ZL1's as they want to. They will only be able to "place" as many as their guide #. Ordering and placing are 2 very different things. An order is not a commitment to produce a car. "Placing" the order will move it into the system, and then it will get built. All of the other orders will sit.

Dealer gets a guide # of 7 and takes orders for 10 ZL1's. There's going to be 3 very unhappy people. The orders can be submitted now, but won't go anywhere until the allocation is available to the dealer to "Place" it.

Hope that helps.

Dealers can be VERY VERY shady. When I ordered mine, I watched EVERYTHING he did. I know I was #12, I know what status the other 11 before me were at, I knew where they stood on allocations... all before I gave him a dime. My order went EXACTLY as he said it would. BUT there can be some real scum sucker desler's out there.

If you got one... but say your number one and I go in and say hey dealer owner... I'll give you $20,000 over sticker for two ZL1s... what would he do??? The ethical dealer would say I'm sorry, they are sold. The scum would take the money, put them in as 1 and 2 and you'd be SOL.

Hopefully none stoop to that level but it could and has happened!
Quick question in regards to when allocations get picked up. Let's just say that there is no shady business like you describe. My dealer has 2 allocations for the model year per GM. Do you know what the determining factor is as far as when those are picked up in relation to all the orders submitted across the country? Is it a first come, first serve system based off of the order number or is it dependant on the size of the dealer and volume they do (or some other factor)?

Of course, if a customer changes his/her order at certain phases of the process, that would move them more to the back of the line. I'm just trying to understand how GM determines the order in which allocations are picked up.

BTW, my order number just changed to 1102, whatever that means

IOM... I have posted that numerous times in several threads... It seems to help a lot! 2000 is the golden number... well in the beginning. That means you were "picked up" and are on your way... Could be november.... could be June tho when you see this number.

Agreed…. If you don’t have 2000, you don’t have a car. Helps explain the confusion a little. There can be 1,000,000 ZL1 orders with a status of 1000, 1100, 1101, 1102 – but only (less than 3000 2012) orders will go to status 2000 or higher.

They get ther allocation cycle a month at a time (October) So lets say they get 4 allocated for October... and there are 4 cycles (weeks) in October... it could be 4-0-0-0 or 0-0-0-4 or 1-1-1-1 or 2-0-2-0... and so on. Get it? They will only know 1 month at a time."

My Questions still.
"It does NOT mean they can order that many right away."
Truth or false?

"So the next allocation cycle is October 6th-13th... a dealer is alloted so many orders that cycle."
Truth or False?

Is this the mystery why some dealers can't order now even though they state they have been allocated 5 zl1's?

Does it mean just because a dealer has allocation they STILL cannot at this time submit a successful order until a later date?
Do you feel because of this statement "It does NOT mean they can order that many right away." is why Me and 10 others are now in limbo even though we have been promised a allocation spot?

BINGO.
My Inventory Manager Broke it down this way. He did not like me at first, but we are good now. This stuff is really more complicated than all the information given, and even though I will get the first one and only ZL1 out of my dealers FIRST cycle, I am starting to understand a bit better. Still a big learning curve! Thanks BeckyD!
