Rust in the dipstick tube in a brand new LS3???
Was checking my oil level at night with a flash light, and noticed a thin but very clearly visible layer of rust in the dipstick tube. (It's not visible in the day light, but it was very visible when I shined a flashlight at it, at night.)
Can this possibly be ok? It's a 2015 SS 1LE that I picked up last week. Thanks in advance! |

Yes, condensation in the oil is normal. It is open to the atmosphere.

But all that rust will be falling off into the oil pan and then circulating through the engine.

Unless your entire dipstick were to erode away at once and fall into circulation, you will be ok. If you are OVERLY concerned about it however, a trip to the dealership and a around $15 you can get a new one. Here is the part # 12634547 Hope it helps. |
