Key recall undo

2015 Camaro

I decided that I don’t care for GMs key fix (the key recall)
I’ll decide for myself if hitting the key while it’s in the ignition is a problem or not, so I undid the recalled key.
I decided not to remove the metal key out of the plastic part of the recalled key.
I was able to buy two key blanks off of Amazon, about $5.00 each.
I found that ACE Hardware can cut these keys and there is no laser involved in cutting them as some have suggested.
The guy at ACE said that sometimes getting these blanks off of Amazon roll pin holes don’t exactly line up but mine were fine.
I had both keys cut, but they messed up one, however they only charged me for one, $20.00. It takes a little longer to cut these keys so that’s why it costs more.
I also got some Stainless-Steel roll pins, 1/16” (.0625”) in dia. x .25” long. Then, after I got home, I thought, hey, these might be metric, so that would be 1.5mm (.0591”) in dia. X 6mm (.2362”) or 7mm (.275”) or even 8mm (.315”) long.
I used the Inch pins, they went in a little hard, it was a little bit of a pain to get them into the key fob but I got them in so I really don’t know if they are metric or not, if they are then I would go with 1.5mm x 7mm or 8mm if I couldn’t find 7mm long. 8mm long would be the max. length.
That’s it, key recall undone.

Would it have not just been easier to order a whole new switchblade off of Amazon for like $12 and get cut? Then program it?
