Another ticking LS3 but doesnt sound like normal tick.

So ive been hearing this ticking sound from my Camaro since doing my cam swap and I can not figure it out. I vant hear it outside of the car but mainly when im inside the car. Its not exhaust leak i checked everything 4 times, checked rocker arms over and over, lifters are new, trays are new did the Trunnion upgrade as well. As the rpms go it it gets to sounding like a buzzing sound then the exhaust is to loud to hear it. Oil pressure is perfect and im stumped on this one. Are the OEM lifters not enough for the size of the cam?

I uploaded a video cruising back home from the store at about 15-1600rpm had to turn off radio and AC to hear it. Anyone have any idea? No codes are thrown and it still runs and drive fine.

Correct push rod length? Head gasket thickness? Are the new lifters different?

7.425 length which is correct for the cam i have. Lifters are all the same, headgaskets are LS9 so 0.055.

The pushrod length is only correct if you measured length needed to confirm.

Did you measure them or did you doubled checked what it was supposed to need based upon the cam?

If i double checked it means i measured them if youre going to keep saying the same crap do it somewhere else.

But that's not what you said. I wouldn't assume you saying double checked means that you measured, but that you double checked the measurment of the part in question before you purchased it. Read what you said. When you're vague on what you're talking about it makes it difficult to help.

Do you have more details on what exactly you have done?

I think he was just trying to clarify that you did measure no need to get nasty.

Sounds like a lifter tick, the only way I got mine to be quiet is to get pushrods that put the lifter piston way down in the lifter, about .030 to .050 from the bottom so about .125 to .150 preload. Also it helped when I ran thicker oil, now my valvetrain is really quiet and it still runs great after 15K miles with cam. Run high zinc oil too it helps make high performance valvetrains live.

I would never recommend running a thicker oil to quiet a valvetrain down. sacrificing your bearings for quiet valve train is not a good sacrifice to make. I am on the stock lifters and don't have an issue. I haven't gotten a change to listen to the link yet though. Mine has some valvetrain noise not really ticking just sewing machine type noise as the rpms go up. Be sure the exhaust or something is not hitting anywhere.

I don't think that I would have put regular old oem lifters with that cam. It's a bit much for them.

Why do you say that? I've ran OEM lifters on big cams across many platforms with zero issues. It is all about setup and the RPMs they are going to be exposed too.

I just think if your going to spend all that money on a cam and other parts it probably good idea to upgrade your lifters while your in there for piece of mind.

I have run 20w50 royal purple for almost 20k miles and the engine is happy, oil pressure is always the same. The no thick oil in a LS is an unproven myth, in the summer is works just fine. I would say a sewing machine sound is not good it means metal to metal contact.
