Next Gen Mustang Mega Thread

The new Mustang will be global and weigh at least 300lbs less.

Yeah but global? Thats a big move.

Im just really curious if the new mustang will carry over any of the retro styling at all or be something out of left field and the only thing recognizable will the "3 bar tail lights".

Im guessing it will be out of left field.

Wrong. There are many ways of cutting weight down. Cabin room isnt always one of them.

They will probably use lighter materials and who knows what else. But i strongly believe the interior room will not suffer all that badly.

Ford has already said the next generation will not be retro.

Well they are already up to making the Boss 302, which is based in the early 70's. To keep the retro going, they would need to make a new Mustang II which, to hold true to its roots, would need to be based on the Ford Focus, just as the Mustang II was based on the Pinto. So yeah it might be time to quit while they are still ahead.

Its not going to be based on the damn Mustang II. It will likely be something ultra modern. As I said, probably the only recognizable thing will be the 3 bar tail lights.

Well I should hope not. I don't think anyone pines for the day they were driving a car based on a Pinto!

Retro is dead. And buried. Notice how the HHR, PT Cruiser, all those cars are dead.

Sounds like that Ford is trying to get back to SN95 platform weight. That was the best thing about my 02 GT, that thing was lite.

Gen5 Camaro is retro. Mi know some like to say it's not, but there is no denying the styling cues it has from the Gen1 cars.
