The bad front struts

Im sure anyone who has had the shock bang on the 1LE is very disappointed in GM for putting those garbage shock/struts in our cars . I just ordered the B6 Bilstein struts from Rock Auto $120.00 each .Just couldn't stand it any longer.

My bad ,yes they are $212.79 each .No matter what I just couldn't live with the bang over some bumps. Rock was the cheapest I could find in stock.

If you get a chance, please post your thoughts on the B6 vs. the 1LE shocks after you've put some miles on them. I'm very interested to hear about how they compare. I love the 1LE suspension but its getting warmer now which means the BANG is back...

Matty Ice did the Bilsteins with lowering springs. He raved about them.

At least a few others that used to be active here did them.

Zach at Katech put them on his track build but had to lower the rear spring about a half inch to get rid of preload on lowering springs.

I hate it when GM uses customers as beta testers ,and leave us hanging with problems like this .It should have been a recall .

Is there a mileage that this issue shows up around or is it caused by something else?

Mine started at 11500 miles ,at 38 months ,still only have 14600 miles on it. Never had shocks go out so fast .Bad design and GM knows it.

Hmm. Good to know about this risk. Reminds me of 05 gto radius rods and strut tower braces.

When you changed them, did you use the original springs? Or use new?

Yeah, really hate that bang!

Experienced it for the first time a couple of weeks ago when I was going around 30 mph and rolled over a road repair (slight raised portion covering a sewer repair, maybe 2" tall). It sounded like the shocks were going to come up through the fenders!
