I always knew wat it meant as a kid, my uncles on my step dads side always had cool ass cars! Monte carlos , stangs , camaros! I had the Z28 race track with the yellow triggers! cant think of the name! I did mybest to teach my sons the terminology! But I'm still learning, there were alota options and models offered over the last 40 or so years! Rally sport, Super Sport! Z28! Iroc Z28 thats wat i know frm childhood! Zl1 and COPO are new 2 me (2010) ! but any one who hasnt or isnt into cars could easily get confused! I have an LS but shes my baby and she has neither badge jus 323hp of fun! M6 the best choice I made! Love my FKN car!

My wife had a 1992 25th Anniversary RS Camaro with the 305 V8 in it. It was badged RS.

I believe that was just a GM RPO code, randomly generated with no actual meaning. But most take it to mean 2 door V8.

Basically it's just a random number that sounds good, like a Z71 Silverado.

I think there is a lot more to it than that. Z/28's were factory hi-performance small-blocks, built with up-graded suspensions, and packages to qualify as track cars with a 5.0 liter max on engine displacement.

I am aware of that, however GM could have easily called it the Z/29 or Z/27. The original question was what does Z/28 mean.

"nope... It just adds some wheels and stuff..."
But I keep the badges cuz I like em

I can't be the only one experiencing this
According to the 2012 Sales Brochure if you order the RS Package you get: "20 inch Midnight Silver-painted aluminum wheels, high-intensity discharge headlamps with integral LED halo rings, body-color shark fin antenna and body-color roof ditch moldings.

I believe this has changed some from the 2010 and 2011 models.

randomized huh. I guess the SS back them wasn't really RPO Z27 and the next one available when they decided to do a trans am car wasn't Z28.

looks pretty random to me.

My coworker has a 1st Gen Z-10 Camaro.

I think the different numbers used to denote different performance/appearance packages and over time Z/28 became synonymous with a performance package, but I'm 100% sure about that.
