Other than the debatable bold comment, I could take one of two approaches here. 1. Everything there screams adrenaline and fun. or 2. Why all the GT500 Hate? (as in, a play on this thread title)

On another forum, this is what someone said about being a car enthusiast. Probably the best thing I've read in a while.
"A car enthusiast can be mostly summed up as someone who has great respect and admiration for cars, not just his/hers. They love learning about cars, talking about cars, driving cars, and working on them. A car enthusiasts is NOT someone who only loves their car, and thinks that their car is the best and all other people and their cars are worthless and stupid. Those are called Dicks. Don't be a dick, be a car enthusiast." Both of the cars should be respected. Now we all have opinions as to which we like better (ZL1 for us of course), but they are both amazing cars. Straight to the garage...

Well I was at a car show today and took first place in the stock category. Mustangs 2nd and 3rd voted by all other entries. Not that much hate.

They could guess (corporate spies) what was coming...so yes it was to compete. If not then why do what they did? To compete. When you don't have a chassis to compare with you go whole hog on what you do, hence the engine. It is a great one at that!

I take pride in knowing my mods have placed my car far and beyond the reach of fords uberstang.. my car can literally go from the road course to the drag strip and will go around the road course as fast as the driver (me) is capable of, without the car holding me back and then with Nothing but a tire pressure change runs 10s in the quarter. .

the fact is that the ZL1 comes stock makimg 9psi of boost and the GT500 comes with 15psi. Here at Lethal Racing we do a few simple mods and bring the ZL1 to 15psi and it makes MORE rwhp than a GT500. once you bring them to the same boost, the LSA is just as powerful!

I love the ZL1 and will own one in a few years when the price comes down. I have owned way to many new cars and lost way to much money to buy new anymore. That being said I think that alot of the hate comes from people who dont even have a car thats even close to a ZL1 but still feel that they have to trash talk it just because its not a Mustang or what ever they are driving.
Its funny to see when you go on a Mustang forum and half the guys that are bashing the performance of the zl1 are driving a car that would get mopped up by a stock ZL1. One thing I will admitt though is that Im kind of let down at how they run at the drag strip. Most of them that I see would have a hard time outrunning my 01 WS6 that I had and it only had a few bolt ons. |

My front tires are as wide as your rear tires, mr.gt500
I love the ZL1. I can always add more HP but I can't simply add more chassis and structural engineering if I bought a GT500.
For the love of grip, Ford, you give a car 660+hp and put pizza cutters on the back. That thing needs 400s on the rear. So if I want to whoop up on a GT500 in a strait line, cuz the track it already does, I do some power upgrades. On another note, have you sat in one, they are not comfortable. That is if the '14 is like the '13, interior wise. Shane

Argument from the Ford camp would be $1500 in simple mods: Intake, Throttle Body, and Tune = 700RWHP from a smaller engine at the same boost, has a 2.3L TVS, and is assembled by hand in the USA. Not worth the debate honestly, both can take you where you want to go. On topic, no hate here, owned a '10 SS. It was a hard choice for me as I loved both the ZL1 and GT500, but Dealers in SoCal make it near impossible to buy either without a kidney/arm/leg + MSRP. Hate for a car or brand shouldn't be a factor in a purchase this large, but hate for greedy scumbag dealers (sales people) is justified. I'm grateful I had the choice to make and wouldn't mind getting a '13 Z down the road to park next to the GT500.
