Automatic rear diff to 6 speed rear diff

I purchased an automatic 2013 ZL1 and I would like to remove the stock diff complete with 3.23s and purchase a 6 speed diff complete with 3.73s and install. Has anybody accomplished this and if they have, what problems may or may not have occured.

Wouldn't it be easier and way less expensive to order the 3.73 gears and have someone install them? The first gear auto is lower than the first gear in the manual, so I also wonder it this is a good idea.

With the 6 auto tranny ratios that are present, you really won't gain much from this expensive swap. Concentrate on airflow mods, boost, cooling, and tune for more performance and you will find there is no need to swap rear ratios. If it were your typical 4L60E with only 4 speeds, then maybe a viable option.

The costs are not the question, but Stephen12ZL1 and radz28 have made some suggestions that are plausable which I appreciate. I already have a Roto-Fab and presently looking at the pulleys/damper/headers. And to answer Drew P, I run my "hobby cars " strong on the streets/highways and "stop lite to stop lite". According to RPM Transmissions, they advised just buying the ZL1 6 speed rear and they have customers doing that. I tried buying the Chevy 3.73 6 speed gears but there is not a price listed for them according to the local Chevy parts person. Starting the mods!!!!

Have you checked with Richmond for a ring & pinion gear set? 3.73 in the auto is just going to have you spinning a lot more off the line. The more HP you add to your engine the better off you will be with the 3.23 gearing in the auto.

Unfortunately, I have a ZL1 diff from a 6 speed sitting in my "mancave" and my mind wanders with ideas.

If you want to go quicker in the 1/4 mile get a good stall converter like the FTI triple disc.
