OVER 80 MPH IS RECKLESS DRIVING

In the Commonwealth of Virginia 11 over WILL get you a reckless driving charge if the speed limit is 70.

For those of you who live on the eastern seaboard this is probably not news...

Now for the record, I was NOT doing 81. My speed was somewhat north of that. One of the first questions my lawyer asked me was "do you have a specialty license plate?" I don't, but apparently "CATCH ME" did not work out for one of her previous clients.

I CAN say that I was only north of 80 for 7 seconds. The second worst 7 seconds of my life...

0 points, last speeding ticket 1987.

I just read that for not using your turn signal in Virginia, they could treat that as reckless op. Now, I hate when people don't use their signal but reckless op may be a little extreme.

Driving in Virginia sucks. I was pulled over for displaying a radar detector, even though it wasn't on the officer still ticketed me. Plus, when I payed the fine, they never credited me and I had to deal with it a few years later. Thankfully I had the cancelled check. ugh, Virginia is for suckers!!

When the ZL1 came out a magazine writer from Texas was given one by GM for a story and he got busted on a 55mph 2-lane in northern VA doing 93. That is a mandatory 3 day trip to the cross-bar hotel, which he had to come back for and serve, plus lawyer fee, and $1000 fine. On the other hand, if you are going below 93 on I-95 between DC and Richmond, you'll likely get run over.

Yes. Living in Virginia sucks. And doing 80 and/or 15 over will get you reckless.

As a car guy, I hate this place. LOL.

I think Washington may have Virginia beat. DON'T embrace your Camaro while driving!

In Washington:

Max Highway Speed: 70 mph
Reckless Driving Threshold: 1 mph above limit (speeding can be used as evidence of reckless driving, but generally speed alone won't lead to a reckless driving charge)
Reckless Driving Mandatory Penalty: none; gross misdemeanor
Reckless Driving Maximum Penalty: 1 year imprisonment, $5000 fine, 1-year license suspension
Note: The act of "embracing another while driving" is considered reckless driving.

Yea I feel thankful to live in California now. Last year I was doing 95 on the highway (speed limit 65) and the cop was totally cool and put me down as going 79!

I drive on I-81 all the time and never have a problem going "the speed limit". Just because your car can do north of 160 mph doesn't mean you need to prove it.
