Camaro SCT tune Vs HP TUNERS tune by Tampa Tuning

On a recent dyno day, I met an owner of a 2010 Camaro with a 6 speed manual enhanced SCT hand held unit tune in the car. I compared the SCT tune with a base line mail order tune of mine, and saw where additional gains would be sought even before I dialed the car in specifically with a Tampa Tune.

The owner stopped by last week and I worked my magic on it.
The car off the bat had to be dialed in for to much commanded fuel calling for about high 11s-low12s AFR.

When I was complete, It had no knock and 12.6 AFR at WOT. Because it didnt have headers ( through the SCT tune seemed to be set up for it), I had to reduce the prior given main spark by 3 or 4 degrees in the .76-.88 G/CYL range to reduce knock.

The SCT unit provided an OK tune, but there's no better method of tuning than having the car in front of you on whichever system you choose. If you dont have a tuner around you, the hand held unit will give your car a differant feel over stock.

Im not sure how much the hand held units cost compared to a $280.00 full street performance tune of Tampa Tuning.

I can vouch for Phils abilities as a tuner. It was my car he worked on last Sat., and I am very pleased with the results. My car was running good before but with Phil's help it runs even better now. We did about 8 runs to get the tune just right, some a little hair raising! I was very impressed with Phil's attention to detail in making sure my car ran perfectly with what mods I have on it. Not to say that the previous tune was bad, it wasnt, but its even better now. Now I just need my LTs! Come on tax refund!

Thanks Paul. Once you get the headers on, I can add more fuel and timing

at WOT, you target 12.7. I say target because that number is going to continue to move slightly up and down as air volume flows through the exhaust and is read by the wideband. The mid to upper 12's is where you want to be.

If your targeting 12.7, but commanding the car to be 11.6, and hitting 13.8 its time to find a new tuner.

HP Tuners is a great tuning option out there Camaro owners.

Its $649 for the pro unit with 8 credits. Add a mail order tune for $150 dollars with a total cost of $800. Divide that by 4 owners, and you have unlimited access to your car, and a mail order tune for $200 each.

Tampa, what is your logic in making changes to the high octane base table rather than the fuel mixture spark correction table for wot timing tuning (PE modifier table)? In the end you really come out to the same place but I was just wondering what your thoughts were.

I dont have the pro I bought my hp for 499.00 with 8 credits... took car of my buddys Ls1 and is so nice to have the abilith to go in when ever we want and change stuff.. I use EFILive and I love it. Worth the money IMO. EFILive or HPTuners are both great tuning software.
